Workshop Update: Renault Clio / Meglio Track Car Build

In the workshop this week we had a customer’s part-built Renault Clio / Meglio track project in for a few outstanding issues.

The customer reported:

1. Airbag warning light illuminated
2. Excessive cranking before starting
3. Damaged coil pack connectors

Our Work:

1. Airbag System & Dash Faults
We connected Renault CLIP dealer diagnostics. As this is now a stripped-out track car, several removed systems were still active in the ECU and causing faults. We professionally coded out the deleted items to suit its new track use. Result: no warning lights and a clear dashboard.

2. Coil Pack Wiring
The existing coil pack plugs and wiring were in poor condition and had all failed. We removed the damaged wiring and plugs and supplied and fitted our own in-house coil pack repair kit. All joints were soldered, sealed and finished in motorsport-grade heat proof tape for reliability under track conditions.

3. Poor Starting / Long Cranking
To start, we brought the engine up to temperature and carried out a compression test. All four cylinders returned a healthy and consistent reading of around 160psi, confirming a good base engine.

With that confirmed, we moved to live data diagnostics. We found the intake air temperature sensor was reading a minus figure, which was causing a fuelling miscalculation on start-up. Interestingly, it had not logged a fault code or triggered an EML.

We supplied and fitted a good used replacement sensor, which then correctly read just above ambient outside temperature.

We then tested the start-up from cold, from 50 degrees and from fully warm. Cranking time to start was dramatically improved across all temperature ranges.

The car is now complete and was collected by the customer on his trailer, ready for him to continue his build and get out on track.

IN THE WORKSHOP: BMW M2 - Boost Fault

Vehicle: BMW M2 Track Car

Complaint: Boost pressure fault / loss of power
Following in-depth diagnostics, the fault was isolated to the turbocharger.

Upon removal and full strip-down, the turbo was found to have failed beyond repair.

The unit is a hybrid turbo and has been returned to the builder for inspection and rebuild.

Job now on hold pending turbo return. All Genuine BMW gaskets, seals and associated hardware ordered ready for reassembly.

We will update once the build is complete and ready for track use.

Back in with us for a post-track inspection, this stunning purple silk BMW M3 came in following a trip to the Nürburgring.

The customer wanted complete peace of mind before their next outing, so we carried out a thorough inspection to ensure everything was in perfect working order.

As part of the visit, we performed a full brake fluid flush using Castrol SRF, providing the high-temperature performance and reliability needed for track use. We then completed a comprehensive vehicle inspection, and we’re pleased to report the car received a clean bill of health.

With everything checked over and ready to go, this M3 is now fully prepared for its next track day at Donington Park.

Another Renault back to full health.

This Renault Mégane 225 came to us with a dashboard that looked like a Christmas tree. After connecting our Renault CLIP diagnostic equipment, we quickly traced the initial fault to a failed airbag squib.

We supplied and fitted a quality used replacement, which resolved the original issue. However, the airbag warning light remained illuminated. Further investigation revealed that the airbag module had previously been incorrectly coded.

After recoding the airbag module to the correct configuration, the warning light was cleared, and the system was operating exactly as it should.

While the customer was with us, we also replaced the missing washer bottle cap and fitted the missing battery tray bracket, taking care of a few extra details to keep the car in top condition.

Another happy customer, and another Renault kept safely on the road.

Another Renault Megane RS250 back on the road! 👌

This Megane RS250 came to us following a catastrophic engine failure. Unfortunately, cylinder #3 conrod decided it no longer wanted to stay inside the engine, exiting through both the front and rear of the block before destroying the sump in the process. As you can imagine, the original engine was beyond repair.

The customer sourced a low-mileage replacement engine and had it delivered to us for installation.

We removed the damaged engine, stripped all of the reusable components, and transferred them onto the replacement unit. While the engine was out, we carried out a number of preventative maintenance jobs to ensure long-term reliability, including:

• Genuine Renault timing belt kit
• Genuine Renault dephaser pulley
• Genuine Renault water pump
• Genuine Renault auxiliary belt and tensioner
• Genuine Renault rear crankshaft oil seal
• Genuine Renault clutch slave cylinder
• ARP conrod bolts
• New sump gasket
• New Valeo radiator
• Genuine Renault engine oil and oil filter

The car was already fitted with a single-mass flywheel and RTS paddle clutch. As the clutch was showing signs of wear, it was returned to RTS, where it received a freshly re-paddled friction plate along with a new pressure plate before being refitted.

The replacement engine’s sump was removed, thoroughly cleaned and flushed before the ARP conrod bolts were installed, then reassembled with a new sump gasket for added peace of mind.

Once everything was completed, the engine was refitted, fluids topped up, and the car was tested and ready to go.

Most importantly, another customer has their pride and joy back on the road and is absolutely delighted with the result.

The cheap BMW 320d M Sport “battle bus” has officially reached 200,000 miles today.

Over the years, it has been far more than just a car—serving as daily transport, a van, a tip-run workhorse, and the vehicle of choice for countless days out. Whatever the task, it has taken it in its stride and continues to perform reliably.

Remarkably, it is still running on its original engine and turbocharger, while continuing to return around 50 mpg on longer journeys.

A testament to regular maintenance, durability, and just how capable these cars can be when properly looked after.

Renault Megane RS265 Clubsport Track Car Build

We recently purchased this Renault Megane RS265, which already benefitted from a number of well-chosen performance upgrades, including an Airtec intercooler, decat pipe, induction kit, and a K-Tec Supersport exhaust system. The car had also been professionally mapped and was producing an impressive 320bhp.

With a solid foundation already in place, we decided to take the project a step further and transform the car into a Clubsport-spec track machine, focused on performance, reliability, and driver engagement.

Interior
The interior has been completely reworked with a focus on safety and weight reduction. A lightweight T45 SW Motorsport roll cage has been installed and finished in satin black, complemented by one of our custom black boot carpets for a clean factory-inspired finish.

Driver and passenger are secured in Cobra Evolution Pro wrap-around bucket seats mounted on SW Motorsport side mounts.
These are paired with lightweight Sabelt 2-inch touring car specification six-point harnesses, providing excellent support and safety for track use.

The driving position has been further enhanced with a Sabelt 300mm Alcantara steering wheel, fitted using an OMP wheel boss and Volantech horn and cruise control panel.

A Zero Point One full-carbon shifter assembly has been installed alongside a carbon gear surround and finished with a striking red alloy gear k**b, adding both functionality and a premium motorsport feel.
To complete the cabin, a fresh set of genuine Renault floor mats has been fitted, giving the interior a tidy and well-finished appearance.

Chassis & Suspension
To ensure the chassis is capable of handling regular track work, the suspension is receiving a comprehensive refresh. The car will be fitted with BC Racing coilovers featuring track-rated springs, alongside a Whiteline rear anti-roll bar to improve balance and turn-in characteristics.

Braking System
Braking performance is critical for any track-focused build, so the Megane will receive a complete brake overhaul featuring:
● Brembo HC carbon front discs
● Brembo rear discs
● EBC SR21 front brake pads
● Winmax W5 rear brake pads
● Braided brake lines
● Castrol SRF racing brake fluid

This setup will provide the consistency, durability, and confidence required for demanding UK track days.
Engine & Maintenance

Reliability is just as important as outright performance. As part of the build, the engine will undergo a full service and preventative maintenance programme, including:

● New spark plugs
● New coil packs
● New injectors
● Engine oil and filter service
● New fuel filter

This ensures the RS265 is ready for sustained hard use both on track and on the road.

Wheels & Final Specification
To complete the package, we have commissioned a set of custom-made 18-inch wheels specifically for this build. Combined with the upgraded suspension and braking package, the finished car should not only look the part but also deliver exceptional performance and handling on UK circuits.

We’re looking forward to seeing the completed project come together and putting it through its paces on track.
