If you are using air conditioning, gradually turn it down 10–15 minutes before arriving. This will reduce the sudden temperature change when leaving the cab. Give your body a moment to adjust before starting any physical work, as heat, exertion and rapid changes in temperature can increase the risk of heat stress.

This is on the A12 - Fined for having a wee!

Drivers are being fined £150 for urinating in A12 lay-bys by a County Council Enforcement Officer in a plain car waiting in the lay-by. Urination is classified as litter under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. We all agree it's not pleasant for the person weeing, and the people it affects.

Lorry drivers cannot simply pull into a supermarket. They cannot squeeze into a village car park. They cannot leave a 16.5-metre articulated vehicle just anywhere, as they may get fined or cause an accident.

If you're driving an HGV from the Port of Felixstowe to North London, your last realistic chance to use a toilet is Chelmsford Services. From there, it's around an hour to your destination on a good day. Add congestion, queues, or a customer who won't let drivers use their toilets, and that can quickly become much longer.

Drivers are rightly told to stay hydrated to reduce fatigue and improve road safety. So which is it? Drink plenty of water, or risk a fine because there are no facilities? The solution becomes weeing in a bottle and, all too often, throwing it out of the window, creating litter that does not biodegrade. The end result is worse.

Enforcement alone won't fix it. Everyone keeps talking about more services, but this is also a failure to show respect for drivers. Issuing fines in circumstances like this, where someone is clearly not a deliberate and planned fly-tipper, does nothing to solve the underlying problem.

We need to lobby for change, so please tag the organisations and decision-makers who can actually make a difference.

A quick thank you to the drivers who help make life easier for everyone else.

When parking up for the night, taking a moment to park tightly alongside the next truck rather than leaving unnecessary gaps makes a huge difference. It allows drivers arriving later in the evening and throughout the early hours to safely slot in at the end of a row, rather than having to reverse into awkward spaces between vehicles.

It might seem like a small thing, but it helps maximise available parking, reduces stress for arriving drivers and keeps the truckstop flowing smoothly for everyone.

The culture at Felixstowe Truckstop has always been built on drivers looking out for drivers, and we see examples of that every day.

Thank you to all those who park considerately, think about the next person arriving and help make the most of the space available.
