“Sealed for life” doesn’t mean your automatic gearbox fluid lasts forever…
Automatic transmission fluid works hard. Heat, clutch wear and time gradually affect its lubricating and hydraulic properties. As the fluid deteriorates, it can contribute to harsh changes, slipping, delayed engagement and excess wear inside the gearbox.
The filter, sump and magnets also need attention. Fine debris can build up, while the filter may become restricted and reduce fluid flow. A proper service uses the correct manufacturer-specified fluid and follows the precise temperature and level-setting procedure: topping it up with “something similar” simply isn’t good enough.
⚙️ Fluid service intervals vary by gearbox, vehicle and use. Towing, heavy traffic and high mileage can all increase the need for maintenance. Even where a vehicle is marketed as having “lifetime” fluid, that lifetime may not mean the lifetime of the car.
At The Gearbox Centre Group, we can assess your transmission and advise whether a fluid and filter service is suitable. Our state-of-the-art workshop has 15 ramps, advanced diagnostic equipment and the specialist knowledge to do the job properly.
