🔧 January Diagnostics Highlights at EAE 🔧
January kept us busy with some proper head-scratchers. Here’s a look at a few of the more challenging diagnostic jobs we tackled this month 👇
🚨 Mini Alarm Going Off?
This Mini came in with an alarm that wouldn’t behave. The cause?
➡️ Loss of communication between the siren and the roof module (the LIN Bus master control unit).
Further inspection revealed corrosion from water damage inside the roof module. Digging deeper, we found the real root cause — the A/C drain was leaking inside the vehicle, soaking the passenger-side carpet instead of draining outside.
💡 Fixing the water ingress before replacing the module was essential to prevent a very expensive repeat repair.

⚡ BMW E34 – Persistent Misfire & Burnt Coils
This E34 arrived from another garage with a permanent misfire on cylinder 2 and ignition coils failing after around 30 minutes of driving.
After extensive testing, we found a voltage drop on the coil signal wire — something not present on the other cylinders. Wiring checked out fine, so the ECU was opened up…
🔍 Inside, we discovered a failed capacitor within the engine ECU, confirmed with resistance testing.
Diagnosis complete — the challenge then became sourcing a replacement ECU for a vehicle where parts are now hard to come by.

🚶 BMW Z4 – Pedestrian Protection Warning
A Z4 came in from a dealer with a pedestrian protection warning displayed.
The fault was traced to a failed pedestrian protection pressure sensor behind the front bumper.
✔️ Sensor replaced
✔️ Fault cleared
✔️ System fully operational again

🛠️ Correct Diagnosis Saves Time, Money & Repeat Repairs
These jobs highlight why accurate diagnostics matter. If your vehicle has a warning light, fault, or something just doesn’t feel right — we’ll find the cause, not just the symptom.
