1974 TRIUMPH STAG MK2 AUTO – JUST 2 OWNERS & 40,000 MILES!
This is a rather special Stag!
1974 Triumph Stag Mk2 Automatic finished in Carmine Red with black interior, with just TWO owners from new and only 40,000 miles.
Finding genuinely low-owner, low-mileage Stags with this sort of provenance is becoming incredibly difficult.
The car remained with its original owner for approximately 33 years, and within the history file we even have a letter from his daughter confirming that her father owned the car from new and that it was originally purchased from Putlocks of Guildford.
Following his passing, the Stag was sold from his estate in 2007 through a well-known Stag specialist.
And this is where the history gets really interesting…
We still have the original 2007 magazine advertisement for the car, describing it as a one-owner Stag with just over 15,500 miles.
We also have the MOT from February 2007 showing 15,593 miles, together with the original sales invoice showing 15,626 miles.
Its second owner purchased it in 2007, fell in love with it and kept it for the next 19 years, taking the mileage to only around 40,000 miles today.
The history file is superb, with a huge collection of MOTs and specialist invoices documenting the mileage and maintenance over nearly two decades.
And this car has certainly been looked after.
A huge amount of money has been spent over the years making sure the mechanical side of the car is right, with extensive work carried out to the engine, cooling system, brakes, steering and suspension by recognised Triumph and classic-car specialists.
The interior has also been extensively refurbished and presents beautifully, as do the chrome bumpers, wheels and hardtop.
BUT HERE’S OUR DILEMMA…
The bodywork remains remarkably original.
There are a few minor paint imperfections commensurate with its age, and we could quite easily send it into our bodyshop and take the cosmetics to the next level.
But should we?
This is a two-owner, 40,000-mile Stag that has survived for more than 50 years without simply being restored and repainted.
Once that originality is gone, it’s gone.
So we’ve decided to do something slightly different.
We are going to advertise the car exactly as it is for the next few weeks.
We would love it to go to somebody who appreciates its originality and wants to preserve it.
If there isn’t an appetite for the car in its present form, we’ll send it to the bodyshop and take the cosmetics to the next level.
AVAILABLE NOW – £19,995
We think this represents a fantastic opportunity.
With the paintwork taken to the same standard as the mechanicals and interior, we believe this has the potential to be a circa £30,000 Stag.
We have recently sold exceptional Stags at that level ourselves, and there are other high-quality examples being offered at similar figures.
With just two owners, around 40,000 miles, superb provenance, huge expenditure and an exceptional history file, this is exactly the sort of car that potentially deserves to be taken to that level.
Alternatively, buy it today for £19,995, enjoy it exactly as it is and preserve something that is becoming increasingly difficult to find — a genuinely original, low-mileage Triumph Stag with a wonderful history.
Just 2 owners from new • Around 40,000 miles • 19 years with its second owner • Huge history file • Massive expenditure • Beautiful refurbished interior • Remarkably original bodywork
