This evening the Go Fund Me for Spike reached £30,000 shortly before it closes. 🤍

Earlier tonight some of the CIC members met Spike down at the creek on the day we intended to celebrate the launch of Keewaydin. At that point we were about £400 away from the target. When we told him how close it was getting, he was quietly overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity that so many people have shown. 🙏🏻

Spike isn’t someone who seeks attention or stands up to make speeches. He is someone who simply gets on with the work and inspires those around him.

This £30,000 is not just a number. It represents hundreds of people who have stepped forward to help him begin again.

From all of us at Sailors Creek CIC, and on behalf of Spike — thank you.

Tonight feels like a turning point.

Nearly two weeks ago, Keewaydin was lost.

Spike and the team could have walked away.
They didn’t.

They’ve stayed to make the site safe.
They’ve cleared charcoal, rubble and debris.
They’ve worked together to recycle what can be saved and carefully remove what cannot.

This community has already raised an incredible £27,737 to help Spike replace his tools and begin again.

We close the fundraiser on Thursday 5th March. Two weeks since the fire and the day she was due to be re-floated.

If you’ve been meaning to donate, now is the time.

Thank you for your continued, heartfelt support.

Since the devastating fire of Keewaydin at Sailors Creek on Thursday 19th February, we have been overwhelmed by the messages of support for Spike and everyone who’s been a part of Keewaydin’s story.

Thank you.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the fire and rescue crews who responded so swiftly and remained on site through the night, continuing to dampen down hotspots and ensure the area was safe. Their professionalism and care in extremely difficult conditions is deeply appreciated.

Also to many other local organisations who reached out immediately to offer assistance in anyway.

Thankfully, everyone involved are all safe which is the most important thing but we can now confirm that Keewaydin is totally unsalvageable. After two years of painstaking restoration led by master shipwright Spike Davies, alongside a dedicated community of boat builders, volunteers and supporters, this is an enormous loss.

Spike has not only lost the vessel he was bringing back to life, but also his tools and equipment. For a craftsman, those tools are his livelihood.

Right now, our priority is to support Spike in replacing his tools and to ensure the site is made safe following the fire.

A go fund me is now live to help Spike to rebuild his new future. Anything you can give will make a difference. Link in bio: https://gofund.me/4a956e0c3

Thank you again for your kindness and continued support.

🙏🏻

The mammoth effort to bring Keewaydin back to life continues, one careful step at a time. 💪🏻

Spike Davies and a small but mighty crew have been quietly cracking on down at the creek, putting in long days (and nights) to get this beautiful old vessel seaworthy once more.

It’s been no small task! So many planks have been replaced, frames renewed, new engine beds fitted, and one side fully planked and painted. She’s beginning to take shape again. ⛵️

While we’d hoped she’d be afloat by now, we’ve made the call to hold off ‘til spring.
There’s still work to be done, and we want her launch to be done right, not rushed.

Huge thanks to everyone who’s mucked in so far!
Your skills, graft, and kindness mean the world. This vessel has got so much history, but her future potential is being rebuilt right here, in Sailors Creek. 🌊

We’re back… and there’s a lot to catch up on ⚓️

It’s been a long while since we shared an update on Keewaydin—but trust us, we’ve got plenty to report. ⛵️😃

The restoration of Keewaydin has been nothing short of a rollercoaster—two steps forward, eight steps back at times—but Spike and his hardworking fellow shipwrights have reached an exciting turning point.

Thanks to an incredible network of skilled, generous, and passionate people, Spike is now at a crucial stage in bringing Keewaydin back to life. From painstaking repairs to inspired problem-solving, this has been a journey full of twists, challenges, and unexpected triumphs.

We’re so grateful for everyone who’s lent their time, tools, knowledge, and encouragement so far. We’ll shed some light on our Keewaydin heroes along the way! 😇

Stand by for the full story of this epic vessel’s restoration… and what’s coming next for Keewaydin and her shipwright. It’s a good one.

⛵️ WOWEEEEEE 💰 A huge THANK YOU to everyone who generously donated to help us refasten Keewaydin! 🙏 With your support, we raised £2,897 on our crowdfunding campaign, and thanks to an anonymous donor matching every pound, our total raised now stands at £5,794!

This incredible effort bring us close to covering the 3,000 bolts we needed to refasten this old wooden beauty at £2 each. 👌🏻

📸 Our thanks to .mccabe18 for capturing these moments of Spike and the team hard at work.
Keep an eye for more updates, historical photos and films of keewaydin’s past, as we prepare to relaunch her in October. Your support is everything 🙌🏼

Where would our Keewaydin crew be without Loz, our amazing sandwich wizard! 🥪
Every workday, she whips up delicious sandwiches for our Keewaydin crew as we work hard on her refastening. Her sandwiches fuel our energy and keep us sailing through the day! ⛵ ”
