⚡ | A Glimpse Into The Future… Except It’s Already Here. ⚠️
It wasn’t that long ago that transport managers and haulage operators scoffed at the idea of electric heavy trucks.
“ The range isn’t there. ”
" Far too Expensive "
“ They’ll never work in the real world. ”
“ Maybe one day… ”
Well, that “one day” is arriving rather quickly.
Operators who’ve taken the ambitious step into electric are increasingly positive about the experience. Granted, much of the work currently suits point-to-point operations, but when trucks such as the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 can achieve around 500km (310 miles) on a full charge, the possibilities are becoming considerably more interesting.
And the technology isn’t standing still. The eActros 600 is designed to support megawatt charging, with Mercedes-Benz targeting roughly 20–80% in around 30 minutes under suitable charging conditions.
As a forward-thinking independent workshop, this was one of the reasons we simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to become a Mercedes-Benz Trucks Authorised Repairer three years ago.
We knew electric trucks were coming. What perhaps surprised us is just how quickly they’re arriving.
We’re now an MB authorised EV repairer, with fully EV-qualified technicians carrying out work on electric trucks. As the eActros range continues to gain momentum, we’re already seeing more electric trucks coming through the workshop for routine maintenance and support.
But high-voltage vehicles bring very different risks, procedures and technical requirements. ⚠️
So this week we welcomed Paul Tully, Mercedes-Benz Trucks Technical High Voltage Specialist, to Alltruck for further training covering high-voltage safety, product knowledge and the latest technical information.
It wasn’t just about our EV-qualified technicians either. Giving the whole workshop team a greater understanding of the technology and, importantly, how to work safely around it matters as these vehicles become increasingly commonplace.
