A USAF B-52 Stratofortress holds on the taxiway at RAF Fairford after landing, with its braking parachute still deployed.

The drag chute is used to help slow the 185-foot, eight-engine bomber after touchdown, reducing the strain on the wheel brakes and shortening the landing roll. Once clear of the runway, it’s jettisoned before the aircraft taxis to its parking spot.

Have you ever seen a B-52 deploy its drag chute? 👇

Nothing quite compares to seeing a B-52 up close. My ears still haven’t recovered from being so close to the eight TF33 engines! Returning to RAF Fairford after a Mediterranean training sortie. Have you ever seen one in person? 👇

A B-52 Stratofortress returning to RAF Fairford after a training sortie down to the Mediterranean, arriving back in some lovely English summer weather.

Rather than full stop, the Buff performed multiple touch and goes!

A B-1B Lancer launching from RAF Fairford in some lovely English sunshine, and keeping it nice and low on departure.

This was the second jet out, and somehow even louder than the first… safe to say I was regretting not bringing ear protection pretty quickly!

A B-52 Stratofortress returning to RAF Fairford after a long mission, flying a controlled and slightly dramatic approach back into base.

As the foggy conditions began to clear, the Buff certainly made its presence known on final!

A pair of B-1B Lancers departing early morning on a mission last week. Don’t need an early morning alarm when these are around!

A F-15E Strike Eagle from the 492nd FS ‘Bolars’ departing RAF Lakenheath on an early morning training sortie in December 2025.

Little did I realise that just a month later, the squadron would deploy to the Middle East as part of a regional build-up.

A fantastic moment from the Royal Air Force Chinook Role Demonstration at the Royal International Air Tattoo 2024, held at RAF Fairford.

Performed by the RAF Odiham Chinook Display Team, this demonstration highlights the operational battlefield support capabilities of the Boeing CH-47 Chinook HC5. Seen here executing a rolling landing during the role demo — a brilliant display of precision handling, power, and control.

A mission-fit U-2 Dragon Lady departing RAF Fairford for circuit training, climbing away rapidly into the winter sunset.

You can see the pogo wheels drop away before lift off. Unfortunately, the departure is briefly blocked by that building - I’ll be sure to find a better angle next time 🤣

An incredible moment watching B-2 Spirit MYTEE25 taxi past the 09 crash gate at RAF Fairford. Three B-2 Spirits from the 509th Bomb Wing deployed to Fairford in 2019 as part of a Bomber Task Force Europe rotation, conducting training across the region.
