Everyone’s talking about AI.

So let’s answer the question…

How do we use AI to repair your Mercedes?

Here’s what AI can’t do:

It can’t hear that rattle that only happens when the engine’s cold.

It can’t feel a vibration through the steering wheel.

It can’t interpret the customer's explanation of something sounding like a 'choking duck'!

It can’t reassure a worried customer who’s about to drive 300 miles with their family.

Years of training, experience and instinct allow us to do all this!

Do we use AI to help us?

Absolutely! It can help us find information faster, compare technical data and support the diagnostic process.

But, the final diagnosis still comes down to a qualified technician using their experience alongside specialist equipment.

That’s why investing in good technicians will always matter just as much as investing in technology, in our opinion!

What's in at MBS Exeter today?

You drop off your Mercedes, BMW, or MINI at the garage and get on with your day. Yet, in the back of your mind, you're not always sure what's actually happening to it once you hand those keys over!

Here's a small glimpse of what a normal part of a day looks like for us!

Today alone we've had a full EV service and brake fluid change on a Mercedes EQC, a Mercedes AMG in for air con, suspension work on a BMW 5 Series, and a BMW 1 Series head gasket job, all at the same time, all in the same place.

We're a bit like worker bees buzzing around and getting the jobs done, under the watchful eye of a queen bee!

You wouldn’t expect your hoover to work properly if you never changed the filter…..

Your BMW’s cabin (or pollen) filter is no different.

Over time, it fills up with pollen, dust and dirt, not to mention mould from condensation created by the A/C system, which can smell BAD!

Anyway, all this means that the filter can’t clean the air coming into your car as effectively.

Replacing your BMW cabin filter when the manufacturer recommends won’t cost a fortune, and it can make a big difference to the air you breathe, how quickly your windscreen de-mists, and how well your heating and air conditioning work.

The BMW engineer who decided where to put it, must have had a traumatic initiation in the early days!

If you’ve ever had an oil leak on your driveway, a cheap-as-chips metal ring could be the reason. It’s called a sump washer, and it’s designed to squash flat to create a perfect seal.

This is a ‘use once’ item, and it needs to be replaced with each service, so make sure you check this when getting your BMW, Mercedes or Mini serviced.

But why on earth would you be using a hoover to change a leaking sump washer on this BMW M-Series?

Well, Jason’s using it to create a vacuum inside the engine. Putting the vacuum nozzle on the top of the engine creates negative pressure inside the engine block.

The best bit? When he takes out the drain plug at the bottom, air rushes in instead of oil rushing out. It completely holds the oil inside the engine while he swaps the washer.

Mad! It’s like a chemistry experiment!

So, yes! It worked with no mess, no loss of perfectly good oil, and a new seal installed in seconds.

Warm air con? That might just be the start.

At MBS Exeter, we start every air con check with a pressure test.

If the gas is low, we add a dye that shows us exactly where it's leaking from.

More often than not, it comes down to the condenser. Think of it as the radiator for your air con. If that's damaged, any gas you top up just leaks straight back out again.

So on a Mercedes, BMW or MINI, a quick regas alone won't fix a leak for good.

That's why it's worth getting it looked at properly, not just a top up!

Think all engine oils are the same? Think again!
One of the simplest things you can do to help protect your BMW is make sure it has the correct BMW-approved engine oil.
It's not just about choosing the right type of oil. BMW-approved oils are specially tested to work with your engine, cope with high temperatures and support the longer service intervals these engines are designed for.
Repeatedly using an oil that isn't manufacturer approved may reduce the protection your engine was designed to have, leading to increased wear over time and potentially affecting performance and fuel efficiency.
It might seem like a small detail, but using the right oil is one of the easiest ways to protect your BMW, keep it fuel efficient and performing as it was designed to.
Here at MBS Exeter, we only use approved engine oil for all the brands, but if you go to another garage, just ask if they use manufacturer-approved oil for your model of BMW.
