It’s not uncommon to see people stopping at the wrong red light. Whenever you proceed through a green light, you will cross a stop line. Once you have passed that if you see an additional traffic light, for that light to apply to you, there would be another stop line on the ground.

In this example my student starts to bring the car to a stop before realising it’s not their red light. By this time the pedestrian thinks they can cross so steps out.

We all have somewhere to be but spare a thought for how this could make an inexperienced learner driver feel. Quiet 20 and 30 zones known as nursery routes are the only safe place new drivers can get to grips with a real road before having to contend with busy and fast areas. As instructors we choose appropriate places early on with students to minimise hold ups and frustrations to other drivers. This guy couldn’t even wait for us to fully emerge from the junction before passing us. For those that are patient, thank you 🙏
