After a week away in the sun and some much needed time off straight back to it.
I have a fair few messages to get back to from when I was a way and will get back to everyone as asap over the next couple of days,
2014 mini cooper 1.2 b38 petrol. 111k on the clock.
Non start with no compression.
Traced to a stretched timing chain, failed inlet vanos pulley and solenoid.
Supplied and fitted new chain kit, pulley and both solinoids. Also supplied and fitted a new clutch kit as the old one looked pretty worn and makes sense while it was stripped out.
Seeing more and more of these fail as time goes by.
If you have a b38 1.2 or 1.5 BMW or mini nearing 100k I would recommend you have the chain replaced with the vanos solinoids replaced before it fails.

Some week this has been again lacking with pictures but..
Vauxhall Meriva losing water, timing chain faults and an issue with the clutch.
Removed cylinder head to find headgasket failure. Skimmed head and rebuilt with new timing chain. This also got a full clutch replacement as well whilst it was here and now running as it should

Owner just bought the van and had no history of the belt ever being done so wanted it replaced for peace of mind.
Supplied and fitted new wet belt cover and sump. New oil, strainer and filter.

BMW 520d n47 engine came in for poor running.
Traced to broken swirlflaps which had fallen into the intake..
Carried out cylinder leak test found cylinder 4 to be losing pressure through inlet. Removed head found one very slightly bent valve.
Fitted new inlet,valve rebuilt with new timing chain and new manifold

Couple of BMWs in the other day.
420i b48 engine with a very bad coolant leak.
Traced this to the oil filter housing (very common issue) if you look hard on the picture you will see it breaks where the seal sits. Fitted with a new genuine BMW housing.
2nd was a 116i b37 diesel. Eml lit traced to a faulty bank 2 post cat O2 sensor.
Supplied and fitted new sensor and carried out relevant adaption resets.

2015 astra 1.6 diesel. Intermittent oil pressure light lit on idle when warm and Horrendous chain rattle noise.
Stripped this down to find the lower guide for the top chain to be broken with the upper guide damaged as well. Supplied and fitted new upper and lower timing chain..
Supplied and fitted new oil pump and sump gasket for oil filter housing.
Rebuilt with new coolant oil and oil filter.
The difference in how this engine sounds compared to how it arrived is night and day.

Non start diagnosed as a broken timing chain.
Supplied and fitted the latest revision febi chain kit.
BMW chains are made by a company called iwis which are part of the bilstein group. Febi is part of the same group and use iwis chain components.
Using iwis or febi OEM and equally as good as buying from BMW direct but without the BMW price tag.

All n47 chains fail even the newest variant some last longer than other depending on use and maintenance but one thing is guaranteed they will fail eventually.
Prevention is better and cheaper that the cure.

2017 ford fiesta ecoboost.
Came to me as a non runner and diagnosed as a failed timing belt.
Stripped engine and carried out cylinder leak test and found the valves to be ok.
Replaced both wet belts and cleaned oil strainer. Found inlet vvt pulley to be faulty so replaced with a used unit I had in the unit to save the owner some money.
Once running there was an issue with the throttle module which was replaced with one I had in the workshop.
Rebuilt and running as it should.
A failed wet belt doesn't always mean catastrophic damage. Have done a few of these with no damage and new belt sorted it out. Although prevention is better than the cure it's not always worse case when it does fail. Parts are readily available for these engines including full cylinder heads which aren't that expensive if need be.. it's far better to repair what you have than buy an unknown expensive 2nd hand replacement which you would most likely need to fit a belt to as well increasing the overall cost.
