My version of an East Lothian weekend is deliberately uncomplicated: one proper touring pitch, fish and chips at sunset, and enough beach time to forget the itinerary.

Start at Tantallon Caravan & Camping Park near North Berwick. After pitching up, collect dinner by the harbour and take it towards West Bay for the last light. Spend Saturday at Yellowcraig, looking across to Fidra, then choose Sunday's beach by mood: Gullane Bents for a longer walk, Belhaven Bay for big skies and the Bridge to Nowhere, or North Berwick West for an easy final wander.

A useful distinction for anyone planning a Scottish camper break: the right of responsible access does not include access with motor vehicles.

Always check signs and current local restrictions. Use authorised overnight places or campsites where possible and leave the place as you found it.
