🚐 Ford Transit Custom – Electrical Diagnosis & Repair ⚡️

We had this Ford Transit Custom in after failing its MOT due to the daytime running lights (DRLs) and sidelights being inoperative ❌💡

What initially looked like it could be a straightforward lighting fault turned into a much more involved electrical diagnosis.

After carrying out extensive testing of the lighting circuits, power supplies, wiring and related components, we narrowed the fault down to the vehicle’s Body Control Module (BCM) causing the issue. 🔧🔍

With the fault confirmed, we fitted a replacement BCM and coded/programmed it to the vehicle. Once completed, the DRLs and sidelights were fully operational again ✅💡

A great example of why proper electrical diagnosis is important — finding the actual cause of the problem rather than simply throwing parts at it.

The cambelt is a vital part of the engine, and keeping on top of the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule can save you from a very expensive repair bill! 💰

It’s been a full-on day in the workshop with plenty of variety keeping us busy!

✅ Nissan Qashqai – Clutch and dual mass flywheel replacement, along with both front lower arms and an air conditioning top-up while the vehicle was with us.

✅ Nissan Juke – Clutch replacement due to a failed release bearing.

✅ Fiat 500 – This one really highlights the importance of using a trusted garage for vehicle repairs.

The customer had previously already paid to have the rear axle welded elsewhere, but unfortunately when we inspected it we found the repair to be very poor, along with multiple other areas of corrosion and holes that had been missed completely.

Thankfully, the customer was able to source a replacement rear axle, which we fitted, along with two newly fabricated rear brake pipes, ensuring everything was safe and roadworthy before the vehicle went back on the road. ✅

Unfortunately, this means the customer has effectively had to pay twice to get the problem sorted properly—something nobody wants.

When it comes to structural, braking and other safety-critical repairs, choosing a garage you can trust is incredibly important. A poor-quality repair might seem like it saves money initially, but it can end up costing far more in the long run and, more importantly, could compromise the safety of you and your passengers.

Another busy day at OPI Mechanical as we carry out an engine replacement on one of our local council’s vehicles following a catastrophic wet belt failure.

Wet belt failures can cause serious engine damage by contaminating the engine oil and starving vital components of lubrication. Unfortunately, by the time this vehicle reached us, the damage was beyond repair, making a replacement engine the only viable solution.

We’re working hard to get this vehicle back on the road and back in service as quickly as possible. 💪
