🛑 STOP MEANS STOP!

If you’ve ever left Redhill Driving Test Centre, you may recognise this junction 👀

It’s a great example of why it’s important not to let a clear road tempt you into simply slowing down and rolling through a STOP sign.

❌ A rolling stop is not a stop!

When you reach a STOP sign:

🛑 Come to a complete stop at the stop line
👀 Look carefully in both directions
🚗 Move off only when it’s safe

💡 Driving tip: Even if you can see that the road is completely clear, make sure your wheels have fully stopped before proceeding.

It’s not just about passing your test — it’s about developing safe driving habits that last a lifetime. 👍

🚸 Zebra Crossings – Slow Down, Look Up, Be Ready to Stop! 🚸

Zebra crossings might seem straightforward, but they’re one of the places where good observation and planning really matter.

Here are a few key tips for learner drivers:

👀 Look well ahead – As you approach, scan the crossing and the pavements on both sides. Is anyone waiting or looking like they want to cross?

⚠️ Be prepared to stop – If a pedestrian is clearly waiting to cross, you should stop and give them plenty of space.

🚗 Approach at a sensible speed – Don’t leave your braking until the last second. A smooth, controlled approach is safer and more comfortable for everyone.

🚫 Never overtake – Don’t overtake the vehicle nearest the crossing, as they may be stopping for someone you can’t see.

🌧️ Take extra care in poor weather or at night – Visibility is reduced, so give yourself more time to react.

💡 Remember: Good driving isn’t just about following the rules—it’s about anticipating what might happen next and keeping everyone safe.

🚦 Amber means STOP… if it’s safe to do so.

One of the misunderstandings I see on driving lessons is treating an amber light as a signal to speed up. It isn’t.

If you can stop safely before the stop line, you should stop. The only time you should continue is if stopping suddenly could cause danger to you or other road users.

Developing good judgement at traffic lights is an important part of becoming a safe, confident driver—not just passing your test.

Remember: Green = Go (if it’s safe), Amber = Prepare to stop, Red = Stop.

Stay patient, stay observant, and don’t let the car behind pressure you into making the wrong decision. 👍🚗
