1976 Triumph Stag – Russet Brown
69,000 Miles | Just 3 Former Keepers | Last Owner Since 1987 | Exceptional History
We are delighted to offer this very attractive 1976 Triumph Stag, finished in the wonderfully period Russet Brown, complemented by a light tan interior, freshly fitted silver pinstripe and matching factory-style hard top.
First registered on 24th October 1976, this is an unusually low-ownership example, having had just three former keepers. Most notably, the previous owner acquired the car on 10th October 1987, retaining it for almost 39 years.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to find Stags with this combination of low ownership, low mileage and such extensive documented history.
The car has covered only 69,000 miles and is accompanied by an immense history file documenting its life over several decades.
Recent Repaint & Excellent Presentation
Prior to coming into our ownership, the Stag underwent a complete repaint in its original-style Russet Brown and today presents extremely well.
The freshly fitted silver pinstripe finishes the exterior beautifully, while the matching Russet Brown hard top and contrasting light tan interior make for a particularly attractive and very period colour combination.
The car has recently been MOT tested and has an MOT until June 2027.
Recently Serviced by Stag Bay
Immediately prior to coming into our ownership, the car was entrusted to Stag Bay, where it received a service and general check-over.
This follows considerable expenditure during the previous owner’s final years of ownership.
In October 2025, at approximately 69,655 miles, the Stag went to Maidstone Sports Cars for investigation into running and starting issues. Work carried out included:
* Investigation of poor running and starting
* Nearside choke repaired and modified for correct clearance
* Both chokes adjusted
* Fuel-delivery system investigated
* Failed fuel pump replaced with the correct SU fuel pump
* New fuel filter fitted
* Carburettor dashpots removed and left-hand carburettor freed off
* Carburettors cleaned, refitted and balanced
* Ignition timing checked and corrected
* Incorrectly fitted HT leads identified and corrected
* Engine steam-cleaned to trace a coolant leak
* Loose inlet-manifold bolts identified and tightened
* CO level corrected from an extremely weak 0.12% to 3.5%
* New carburettor gaskets and air filters
* Eight NGK BP5ES spark plugs
* New fuel line and clips
* Road tested following completion
The invoice for this work was approximately £1,927 including VAT.
Various additional parts were purchased from Rimmer Brothers in September 2025, and in October 2024 a new soft top was fitted at a cost of £1,344.
An Exceptional History File
The history accompanying this Stag really is impressive, consisting of a large arch file containing invoices and documentation stretching back decades.
Amongst the paperwork is an extraordinary collection of every tax disc from 1985 until physical tax discs were discontinued.
We even have the original supplying dealer tax disc from Victory Motors of Axminster, Devon.
These small details, combined with decades of invoices and records, provide a wonderful insight into the life of the car and are increasingly difficult to find with Stags of this age.
On the Road
The car drives extremely well and feels like a Stag that has clearly benefited from long-term ownership and continued maintenance.
Following its recent repaint, new soft top, mechanical expenditure and most recent service and check-over at Stag Bay, it is also particularly well presented.
For us, however, the standout feature is the provenance: only three former keepers, approximately 69,000 miles, almost 39 years with its previous owner and an immense history file documenting decades of ownership.
A very attractive and sensibly priced example of the increasingly desirable Triumph Stag, with the sort of history and long-term ownership that is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
