Utopia Plates - Our Story
The genesis of Utopia Plates took place in 2018, when Mitchell and Charlie's creative minds sparked a brilliant idea to start selling the popular 3D Gel Resin number plates. Based in Langley Park, within the confines of the Utopia Tints already busy workshop, we set up Utopia Plates and made our very first pair of number plates! Registration: X15 CDC on October 6th, the
stepping stone of Utopia Plates' journey, this was also the very first image posted to the Instagram. For the initial two months, Instagram and word of mouth were our platforms, helping us sell our first few hundred pairs of plates. In December 2018, a new dawn in our journey began when we launched our website and got an overwhelming response. Unbeknownst to us, Google's search engine would soon propel our growth across the UK, taking the business to a whole new level. During the same month, we were one of the Number Plate Supplier pioneers to launch 4D plates in the UK. Little did we know that these 5MM depth 4D plates were about to revolutionise the number plate industry!
2019
This year marked the expansion of Utopia Plates, with the production of hundreds of plates each week, shipped all over the UK. In June, we showcased our plates at the Kulturschock car show, a platform that bolstered our recognition in the North East. That year, we also had the privilege to be one of the finalists in Yiannimize’s competition “The Grand Entrepreneur”.
2020
The onset of this year was a challenging period due to COVID-19. Nevertheless, we experienced an unexpected spike in demand and expanded our team. To show our support during these trying times, we gave away thousands of free "Key Worker" stickers, easing the journey for the frontline heroes.
2021
Utopia Plates relocated to a new unit in Durham's heart, Dragonville Industrial Park. With a new custom built walk-in shop and a rapidly growing online presence, Utopia Plates was not just a name but a brand that people began to recognise. This was the year that we really started to find our feet and manufacturing & operation of the company was starting to become silky smooth.
2022
The year of strategic planning and groundwork, for what was to become a transformational 2023. On April 1st, we embarked on a groundbreaking project - a new cutting-edge website set to bring innovative features to the number plate industry. Also in 2022, our social media presence exploded with our videos amassing millions of views on Instagram and TikTok.
2023
The future has never looked brighter. On May 15th, we soft-launched our highly-anticipated website, featuring a state-of-the-art 3D instant preview plate builder and an extensive collection of private registrations with some worth up to a staggering £800,000! Just within the first month of going live, we sold hundreds of private registrations. From the bold beginning in 2018, Utopia Plates has evolved into a recognised brand, known for quality, innovation, and exceptional service. We are primed and ready to become the dominant force in the private registration game. As we move forward, our vision remains clear - to keep enhancing your journey with innovation and quality, making your vehicles stand out from the crowd.
