2013 Audi A4 lowered properly

We brought this Audi in for a service as our customer hadn’t long purchased it and wanted to make sure everything was 100% with it as it had a few noises in it when going over bumps or rough ground.

We asked the customer what their plans were for it and they said over time they’ll lower it, tidy up the brake callipers and put on a set of bigger wheels.

Once we did our service checkover we found all front lower arms to be in bad shape and all 4 shocks to be leaking or busted and suspected the top mounts on the shocks to be the suspect of the banging noises.

We contacted the customer and confirmed that this would be a perfect time to install the coilovers they had already purchased and sort all in one go.

Vehicle received a full service
Brakes freshened up with removing all rust and greasing where necessary
4 Meyle HD lower arms
4 Meyle HD droplinks(front and rear)

We fitted a brand new coilover kit and fitted 4 new top mounts in the process.

Customer requested that they wanted it as low as possible but still drive-able
(challenge accepted😎)

We made all the necessary safe adjustments and modifications to different parts, so the vehicle could sit low without the risk of destroying any bushings that move with the suspension, by simply loosening all the bushings that move with the shocks, getting it to the height we were happy with. We then jacked up each corner one by one to the height they’d sit if the vehicle was on the ground, we use this method in all vehicles that we fit with bushings or arms; this prevents them from busting prematurely and also contributes to helping to lower vehicles them few precious mm’s more.

When fitting coilovers we allow them to sit as low as possible over 12hours to allow the suspension to settle on full tension, so when we readjust to the height we want it to sit at, there is no risk of any suspension settling afterwards or risk of damage. This method also contributes to a softer suspension travel rather than the hard feel from other vehicles fitted with coilovers.
(Theres a method to our madness)🤪

By following our process and making the adjustments the way we have, the springs are sitting tight with no movement when jacked up. 😎

Part 1 of a 2014 Toyota Hilux 3 layer rust treatment and back of cab stone chip protection.

This one came to us a bit differently than the previous ones we have done. The customer had removed the truck bed to get repainted, which allowed us full access to the complete chassis top and bottom.

We offered to protect the back of the cab free of charge as having access like this helped us get all the awkward areas more easily, so we were happy to do it and we think it turned out great.

Normal process of removing all plastic under covers and guards, loose rust and dirt to let us begin the first stage of the treatment.

We prepared the back of the cab by using a coarse scratch pad, taped off and covered the vehicle in our protective sheeting.

We then primed the back of the cab, carried out the first stage of our rust treatment, allowed the paint and primer to harden, prepared the back of the cab with a finer coarse scratch pad and painted it at the same time as applying the second stage of our rust treatment stone chip underguard protection layers.

We allowed the second stage to harden before taping off the back of the cab to protect it from the waxoyl layers. We then finished the rest of the final stage of the rust treatment to the chassis.

All metal underguards and the inside of back bumper cleaned of loose rust and dirt and painted with our direct-to-rust paint.

2004 Landrover Discovery Mot failure for rot/rust

This customer had contacted us explaining that their vehicle had failed MOT because of rot and that no local mechanics in his local area of Omagh or anyone they contacted in the 26 miles from them to us wanted to take this vehicle on, telling them that they’d be better off scrapping it than fixing it.

Our response was - bring it to us and we’ll give you our honest opinion. The customer explained to us that if we thought that it wasn’t worth fixing that they would need to try and purchase another vehicle but they were in the middle of house renovations and didn’t want or need the cost of a new vehicle at this time.

We arranged a day that we would have a lift free to inspect it, to be fair it was a brave list that would put most people off but we’ve tackled far worse and for a 2004 Land Rover with only 125000 miles and running perfectly, it was well worth saving.

Unfortunately because the vehicle had went through its MOT, we had to follow the requirements for the MOT where rot is involved.

1.All repairs must be visible
2.All repairs must be seam welded
3.No sealer or ways of covering the repairs to be applied (only primer if needed)
4.Adequate repair material to be used

So because of these rules we left everything as it should be for the retest.

We stripped the interior and moved wiring/carpets and the sound deadening off the floor incase of fire.

All repair pieces made with our 1.2mm thick metal.

Being 19 years old the metal on the landrover was weak so we had to build up the welds in quite a few places until it finally took (patience is key) and then seam welded over it all again. Some repairs had double seam welds after the metal would keep blowing holes but we persevered to get the job done.

Easiest way to get vehicle to pass with a rotten towbar was to just remove it to be replaced with a new piece.

Complete underbody and towbar cleaned of all loose rust then sprayed with red oxide primer aswell as the repaired pieces, sill repairs covered with etch primer.

2012 Bmw x3 with a lucky water leak

This Bmw came in to us with a bad water leak which we found to be coming from a plastic water housing at the top of the engine.

To gain access to the bolts holding it on and generally better access to install a new one, we needed to remove the inlet manifold and thankfully we did as this engine was on its way to failure with only 114000 miles on the clock.

In the pictures you can see complete carbon build up and the swirl flaps to be covered or missing, over time the carbon has broken down a couple of the flaps to somehow safely pass through the engine without causing any damage but it was only a matter of time before one whole swirl flap dropped in and caused engine failure.

There was so much build up of carbon along the swirl flaps that the weight had caused the connecting arm to the actuator to snap therefore there was no operation of the swirl flaps internally. Because the actuator was still operating normally there was no fault detected and no engine light for the vehicle to need any sort of diagnosis, so thankfully the Bmw sprung a leak.

We cleaned all parts of the built up carbon, removed the rest of the disintegrating swirl flaps, recovered two from inside the cylinders and refitted and sealed in the swirl flap rod so there was no passing of air. There was no need to fit a swirl flap delete kit to this vehicle as the customer said there was no power loss and it ran okay (some models of bmw do require the delete kits). The actuator was still operating as normal so no engine lights and no need to remove the swirl flap operation with a remap, therefore money saved for the customer.

After refitting everything and taking vehicle for a test drive it ran smoother and had regained all power that was lost from insufficient flow from the carbon build.

Customer told us that the vehicle is driving better than it ever was.

Our response was: Thank your lucky stars that it started leaking and buy yourself a lottery ticket.

Part 1 of this 1997 HONDA ACTY that came to us after not long being imported from Japan, for our 3 layer rust treatment to keep it 100% rust free to travel in our damp climate.

You can see from the pictures, the level of detail we put into doing this one is evident, especially keeping the original information stickers as intact as possible for this wee truck to show its journey properly from overseas.

Vehicle completely stripped down and cleaned of any loose rust and dirt, complete underbody surfaces keyed to accept the first layer of the treatment.

Vehicle sealed from the inside and out to stop any overspray getting inside the cab or onto the paintwork.

2003 Volkswagen Cabriolet MK3.5 we had in for a new heater matrix and to recover and fix the deteriorated heat direction doors and flaps.

Sounds like a simple job to talk about but the work that entails to actually do it properly is a completely different scenario.

This vehicle in particular had 4 separate problems with the heating system.

1.Leaking heater matrix
2.Vehicle only felt warm while it sat idling (Foam coming out the vents)
3. Heater fan was working intermittently
4.Heater control resister and wiring had started smoking/ Rotting because of leaking heater matrix

Only way to complete steps 1 and 2 is to completely remove the heater box system and the only way to do this job is to completely strip out the dash.

As seen in the pictures we remade the internal flaps with Aluminium foil duct tape for heat deflection and outer edges built up with sticky backed foam edging to stop any air escaping where it shouldn’t.

Not a job for the faint hearted or inexperienced.

So in short heater box rebuilt, new heater matrix fitted, New heater resistor sourced and fitted, New blower fan fitted and all rotten or deteriorated wiring re-wired.
