Focus on what you have control over, stay on top of your tyre checks!

October is Tyre Safety Month! If you are concerned about the condition of your tyres, please call into any depot for a FREE Tyre Safety Check. Find your local depot at www.moderntyres.com

New research has revealed a worrying gap between driver confidence and real-world vehicle readiness.
Many road users believe they are prepared for an emergency—but the reality tells a different story.
Their research found:
• 83% believe they are in full control of stopping distance.
• Only 6% correctly identify stopping distance in wet conditions at motorway speeds.
• 94% underestimate stopping distance risk.
• 42% believe they are better than average at handling emergencies.
• 38% experienced a near-miss in the last 12 months.
• Only 11% checked their tyres afterwards.
• 22% admitted they did nothing at all following a near miss.

The message is clear.
Confidence isn’t a safety strategy. Preparation is.

September is nearly over.

Before October starts, ask yourself:

🔹 What have we sold most?
🔹 What have customers been asking for?
🔹 What do we need better access to?

Your own customer enquiries are one of the best places to start planning.

If you need another wholesale source, Kenway is here to help.

Autumn vehicle check. 🍂🚗

Before a longer journey, take a few minutes to check:

✔ Tyre pressure
✔ Tyre condition and tread
✔ Lights
✔ Screenwash
✔ Fluid levels

GOV.UK recommends checking your tyre pressures and condition before a long or significant journey.

Small checks can help you spot problems before you set off.

You learnt how to drive the car. But how well do you know the four tyres keeping you connected to the road?

Tyre checks should be at the heart of basic car maintenance. Get into the habit of checking the correct pressure, looking for damage or unusual wear and making sure you have sufficient tread.

Once you’ve checked your tyres, there are other essentials every new driver should get to know:
🛞 Check your engine oil
🛞 Top up essential fluids
🛞 Keep an eye on your battery
🛞 Replace worn wiper blades
🛞 Test your lights
🛞 Keep your windscreen clear
🛞 Clean the interior and exterior

And remember to stay on schedule with servicing and MOT checks.

Our car maintenance checklist explains the basics every new driver should know.

Rainy roads are part of driving in Scotland. Your tyres need to be ready for them.

Before the autumn weather settles in, check:

✔ Tyre pressure
✔ Tread depth
✔ Cuts or bulges
✔ Uneven wear

For cars, light vans and light trailers, the legal minimum is 1.6mm. TyreSafe® advises considering replacement below 3mm.

Not sure about yours? Get them checked.

21/09/2026

One in four tells a story no trailer user should ignore. Towing-related breakdown incidents have risen to 4,830 annually, with tyre issues consistently representing 25%–28% of all breakdowns involving towed vehicles.

That means tyre maintenance needs to happen before the trailer joins the road, not after a problem brings the journey to a halt. Check pressures for the load, look carefully for bulges, cracks or embedded objects and make sure tread meets the legal minimum.

The trailer may follow behind. Its tyre safety shouldn’t be an afterthought.

Customer needs a tyre.

You need an answer.

Do you have it?
Can you get it?
When can it arrive?

That's where having a dependable wholesaler matters.

Kenway supplies independent dealers across North East Scotland.

Here's an important distinction:

1.6mm is the legal minimum for cars, light vans and light trailers.

TyreSafe advises considering replacement below 3mm, particularly as wet-weather performance can deteriorate with worn tread.

So don't wait until your tyres reach the legal limit before thinking about their condition.

Autumn is a good time to get them checked.
