Thinking about extending your home? 🏡

Before getting started, here are 3 things worth considering:

01 - Planning & permissions
Understanding what approvals your project may require.

02 - Building standards
Making sure your extension meets current Scottish building standards.

03 - How you’ll use the space
Good design isn’t just about adding more space — it’s about creating space that works for the way you live.

Considering an extension? Our team can help guide you through the process, from the initial ideas through to bringing your plans to life.

Northwood | Project Update 📍

Great progress at Northwood, where works are well underway on site following Building Warrant approval.

It’s always rewarding to see a project progressing beyond the drawings, with the design now taking shape on site.

We’re looking forward to sharing more from Northwood as works continue.

Did you know? 👀

Adding more space to your home could add more than just extra room.

Research from Nationwide suggests that an extension or loft conversion adding a double bedroom and bathroom could add up to 24% to the value of a typical three-bedroom home.

But a successful extension isn’t simply about adding square footage. Thoughtful design can transform how your home looks, feels and works for you while making the most of the space you already have.

Thinking about extending your home? Get in touch with our team to discuss the possibilities.

Designed to feel like it was always meant to be there.

This extension brings new life to the existing home by carefully following the original roof and wall lines, creating a seamless connection between old and new. 🏡

Inside, the kitchen and dining space has been completely reimagined with a modern kitchen, tall larder units and a generous island, while new bi-fold doors and a bay window flood the space with natural light. ☀️

We’ve also made every inch count transforming previously unused garage space into a spacious utility/storage area and WC, with future provision for an accessible shower room.

Thoughtful design, practical spaces and a home that’s ready for the future. ✨

We welcomed the team from Historic Environment Scotland Archive for a visit to our office.

We’re delighted that they’re keen to take our collection of historic drawings, carefully preserved in our attic. As an architectural practice dating back to 1898, our archive tells the story of more than a century of architecture, craftsmanship and design.

It’s exciting to know these drawings will be preserved for future generations, ensuring this small part of Scotland’s architectural heritage remains accessible for years to come.

A piece of our history is proudly displayed in our reception.

This original brass plate was installed by William Gauldie in 1898, when he established the practice as an ‘Architect & Ordained Surveyor’.

From those foundations, GWP has grown and evolved alongside advances in building design, construction techniques, materials and digital technology, while remaining committed to delivering quality architecture.

Displayed beneath it is our Investors in People Gold accreditation, a reminder that, while we’ve embraced change over more than 125 years, investing in our people remains at the heart of everything we do.
