Pretty accurate!

Thankfully, in an automatic there are no missed gears to worry about... just the occasional creative interpretation of where the car should be positioned on the road. πŸ˜†

All jokes aside, I absolutely love this job. Seeing pupils grow in confidence and achieve their goals makes it all worthwhile!

A lovely message from one of my pupils yesterday 😊

Linda has been driving a manual car for 15 years and is a full licence holder, but with an automatic car arriving next week, she wanted a lesson to build her confidence before making the switch.

She's now excited to get behind the wheel of her new car and has already booked more lessons to help build confidence in busier areas of Edinburgh.

It's always great to see someone start a lesson feeling nervous and unsure, then finishing confidently by the end.

Automatic really is the way forward!

If you're thinking about making the switch to automatic and would like a lesson to see how you get on, get in touch. I can't promise you'll love it... but I've got a pretty good idea that you will! πŸ˜„

Test Day Nerves

One of my pupils seatbelted her teddy into the back seat for her driving test! It made her feel more relaxed, comfortable, and she passed! πŸŽ‰

Some pupils like me to sit in the back during their test. Others chew gum, have the radio on quietly, hum to themselves, or use commentary driving to stay focused.
The goal isn't to drive perfectly. The goal is to drive as you normally do.

By the time test day arrives, you've already put in the hard work. You have the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to drive safely and independently. The test is simply an opportunity to demonstrate that in around 40 minutes.

Feeling nervous is completely normal. The key is managing those nerves so they don't affect your decision-making or cause you to drive differently from how you normally would.

Successful Test Swap Today!

Two of my pupils successfully swapped their driving test dates today, which worked out perfectly for both of them.

If you're feeling like you need a bit more time to prepare, and another learner is test-ready and hoping for an earlier date, a DVSA test swap can be a great option. It helps ensure everyone gets the test date that suits them best.

All information in regards to how to swap dates is in the attached photo.

Thank you Roxane!

Every pass means something to me.. I see the nerves, the self-doubt, the early mistakes, the hard work, and the determination it takes to get there.

Watching someone grow in confidence and achieve a goal they've worked so hard for is genuinely one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

Thank you to every pupil who trusts me to help them reach their goal.

From 9th June, if your test is booked in Haddington, you can only change it to the following test centres:

Edinburgh (Musselburgh)
Kelso
Duns

🚨From 9 June, learner drivers will only be able to move their driving test to nearby test centres.

If you book a new test from this date, you will only be able to move your test to:

βœ… any of the 3 centres nearest to where your test is booked

βœ… the test centre you first booked at on that current booking

If you have an existing booking, the new rule will apply to where your test is booked at on 9 June – not where you first booked.

πŸŽ‰ FIRST TIME PASS πŸŽ‰

A huge congratulations to Roxane on passing her driving test first time this morning! What an amazing achievement and a thoroughly deserved result.

From today, no more relying on lifts to get to choir practice – you'll be able to jump in the car and head there yourself! πŸŽΆπŸš— I know how much singing means to you, so this extra bit of independence is going to make a real difference.

It's been a pleasure helping you on your journey. You've worked hard, stayed determined, and today it all paid off! πŸ₯³

One of the biggest things I try to teach in my car is that learning to drive isn't about being perfect. It's about learning from every situation, building confidence, and understanding how to handle whatever the road throws at you.

Mistakes happen – that's completely normal. What matters is taking the time to talk through what happened, why it happened, and what we can do differently next time. That's where real progress is made.

Every lesson is a step forward, and every challenge is an opportunity to learn!

Ever wondered how the driving test is actually marked? βœ…

The DVSA marking sheet below is what examiners use during your practical driving test.

Many learners are surprised to discover that you can make up to 15 driving faults (sometimes called 'minors') and still pass, but just one serious or dangerous fault will result in a fail.

Here's the actual DVSA marking sheet used by examiners during your practical test. Understanding what the examiner is looking for can make a huge difference to your preparation and confidence.
