The Government should make disregard for the safety of drivers displaying an L-plate an aggravating factor in dangerous driving and careless driving offences. This would allow courts to impose stronger sentences on drivers who do not take sufficient precautions when driving near learner drivers.

Temperatures are set to top 30 degrees in the UK this week. It’s vital that drivers keep hydrated at the wheel. Look at some of the effects of Dehydrated Driving; seem familiar? It’s a lot of the same problems as drunk driving or drug driving or driving when highly fatigued.

So before you set off:

- Drink some water or squash
- Tea or Coffee helps with caffeine but can be a false friend
- Bring a bottle of non-alcoholic drink with you on your journey
- Stop for regular breaks on long journeys
- Use your air-con BUT a/c dries the air as well as cools so adds to dehydration
- Don’t forget your sunglasses
- If in doubt, STOP. Delayed is better than damaged.

Did you know?

Any driver who carries limited quantities of dangerous goods should receive awareness training about the regulations for safe carriage. It's a requirement under ADR 1.3. It affects all areas of general haulage. After all, a laptop, a pallet of highlighters or even a pallet of canned whipped cream all fall under the Limited Quantities exemption.

This 7 hour module gives all drivers a basic grounding in the carriage of . We cover all the classes of dangerous goods so that drivers are aware of the properties of the goods they are carrying. We look at best practices for what to do when things go wrong and basic in case of injuries.

This course is on 22/01/22 at our Barnsley training location. Places on the course are just £55 per driver including all fees.

A 7 hour Driver CPC course on dangerous goods awareness which satisfies ADR 1.3's requirements that drivers moving limited quantities have awareness.
