This week started with something a little special in the workshop – a 1990s Porsche 911 Carrera. The customer came to us with a very unusual problem… the horn would go off every time they drove over bumps in the road! 😅

Our team stripped down the steering wheel and found the fault – a slip ring that just needed adjusting. No new parts were needed, just skilled hands and a small labour charge. The customer is now back on the road enjoying their Porsche to the fullest. ✅

This week at SP300 Car Garage in Chesterfield, we had a 2014 VW Polo come in after overheating on the motorway.

The recovery service said the head gasket had gone – but after a full inspection we discovered the real problem:
✅ Warped inlet manifold
✅ Faulty, leaking water pump
✅ A few other worn parts

After replacing these, the engine ran smoother than ever – one of the quietest Polo engines we’ve worked on! 🎉

👉 This shows that an overheating engine doesn’t always mean a blown head gasket. If your car overheats, don’t panic – bring it to SP300 Chesterfield and we’ll find the real issue.

Tricky Tailgate Fix on a 2018 Audi A4 Avant - This week at SP300, we had a bit of a puzzler in the workshop!

A 2018 Audi A4 Avant 3.0 TDI Quattro came in with a faulty automatic tailgate – it wouldn't lift and just gave three warning beeps when the button was pressed.

We ran multiple diagnostic checks, removed the boot trims, and inspected all the usual suspects – motors, wiring, mechanisms – but everything looked fine.

After some deep digging, we found the fault: a problem with the Tailgate Control Module. Once replaced, the tailgate worked perfectly again!

The customer was very relieved it wasn’t something more serious (or expensive!).

Hot Hatch Day at SP300!

Today we had this brilliant 2016 Ford Fiesta ST 1.6 in the workshop for a full service and cam belt change.

We’ve worked on plenty of Fiestas before, but this ST was a bit more involved – a few extra bits had to come off just to get to the belts! 💪 Still, the job went smoothly and the engine sounded spot on once we were done.

One thing to note: We found a pipe had been rubbing against a coolant pipe, damaging the insulation and the pipe itself. This could lead to cooling issues if left unchecked – so if you own a Fiesta ST, it’s worth getting it looked at. Cooling system problems can get expensive if they’re missed!

Today’s job was a real joy – we had this 2017 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG Coupe in the workshop for a full service and check. 🔧

That 3.0-litre V6 engine looked and sounded incredible – and it was a pleasure to work on! We replaced all oils and filters using genuine OEM parts, and gave it a full once-over to keep it running at its best.

🚨 A £7 Upgrade That Cost £150! 🚨

This week at SP300 Garage (serving Yorkshire & Derbyshire), we saw a common mistake that cost a customer far more than expected...

They’d swapped their standard plastic dust caps for shiny metal ones – but after some weathering, the caps fused to the tyre valves, snapping one when removed! 😬

Modern cars use pressure sensor valves (TPMS) – and replacing & coding a new one cost them £150.

Our advice? Stick to plastic caps. They’re fitted for a reason!

This week at SP300 Chesterfield, we had a 2015 Nissan Juke Nismo RS in for a full service and MOT. With 215 BHP under the bonnet and a smart interior, this little hot hatch is a real head-turner!

Skoda Octavia VRS | SP300 Car Repairs – Yorkshire & Derbyshire

We recently had this stunning 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS 2.0L Diesel Estate in the workshop – in a lovely grey, too! The owner was worried about a mysterious oil leak they couldn’t trace.

After a detailed inspection, we found the leak was coming from the timing chain cover – which had been damaged (likely from previous work that didn’t spot the issue).
