🚗 WHAT DOES THE NEW VEHICLE EMISSIONS CONSULTATION MEAN FOR CLASSIC CARS? 🚗

There’s been quite a bit of discussion about the Government’s latest consultation on vehicle emissions, so we thought we’d share a quick summary for the Bowling Green Classic Cars community.

👉 The good news: this is NOT a proposal to ban classic cars or introduce new emissions tests for traditional classics.

The proposals are primarily aimed at vehicles first used from 1 January 2001 onwards, particularly the removal or disabling of emissions-control equipment such as DPFs, catalytic converters, EGR systems and AdBlue/SCR systems.

So your traditional classic isn’t suddenly under threat. ❤️

However, there could be implications for the modern classic and modified-car scene, particularly vehicles from the 2000s onwards. The consultation needs to make sure that legitimate restoration and enthusiast modifications aren’t accidentally caught by legislation intended to tackle deliberate emissions-system tampering.

The consultation is still only a proposal, and the Government is asking for views before any legislation is introduced.

📢 If you own a classic, modern classic or modified car, it’s worth having your say.

The consultation closes on 6 September 2026.
