So back In May my car broke down. Driving along and lost all power, tonnes of smoke out of the exhaust. Suspected turbo failure. Car was only on 13k miles. After it being recovered by the AA to . They informed of the news that they had Found a TD1 code on the ECU where the car had some tuning work and that the warranty was void. Therefore I had to pay for the repair. Fine, that's not the issue.

The service manager at Hendy Group Brighton then proceeded to tell me my engine had seized solid. And that it would need replacing. Along with all the other parts associated like Turbo, intercooler, exhaust system including catalytic converter and OPF Filters ad they were contaminated with oil. All of this was quoted at £16,998.45 Inc Vat.

Now here is where it gets interesting. Being that I know a good amount about engines I opted to have the car back and get a second opinion. And boy was that a smart move. It turns out that all I needed was a new turbo (Genuine of course), some associated parts and some engine and intake system flushing. Of which I trusted a client who owns a garage to do. Which in the end came out at just under £3k all in back on the road and the car is running perfectly.

Now naturally you would trust a main stealer if they tell you your engine is blown, it's blown. But when i emailed the servic manager last of the news and then questioned how he came to the conclusion the engine was seized. His response was "We tried to start it and it wouldn't so we just thought the engine was gone". What a joke. If that had been some poor person with no mechanical understanding they would of taken their word and had the work done.

The damage is now done. I've paid the price. But my point of this post is don't assume as they are main dealer its the truth. Always get a second opinion. I can't help but think off all the other people they've potentially robbed. Disgusting really. And their response to my questions was just lazy and dismissive.
