An interesting job from earlier this month…
This VW Transporter T5 2.5 AXD came in with serious oil consumption after an impressive 280,000 miles of service.
Once we stripped the engine down, the cause quickly became clear. We found heavily worn cylinder bores and pistons, a cracked cylinder head, and significant wear to the valves and valve guides.
At this point, a full engine replacement would normally be the most common route. However, we were able to source a good second-hand bare engine block, which gave us a solid foundation to rebuild from.
From there, we carried out a full rebuild using new pistons and rings, a fully refurbished replacement cylinder head with new valves, along with new camshafts, followers, and a range of other essential components.
The result? A properly refreshed engine that’s now back in the van, running beautifully and ready for many more miles ahead.
Most importantly—no more smoke, and one very happy Transporter back on the road for the summer 🙂
