In these challenging times we find ourselves in, I can fully understand why you may feel the 6 month government extension to the MOT is a relief as it is another expense spared - HOWEVER please remember it is your responsibility to ensure your car is roadworthy or you are liable for a fine and points on your license. Today I picked a car up for a customer who whilst entitled to the extension still wanted their car MOT’d upon inspection you can clearly see that the tyres were exposing threads - totally illegal, the car also needed a number of other parts / repairs to pass its MOT - thankfully this customer did not leave things to chance and now has a car with full MOT. Please ensure you are checking your car and ensuring it is still road legal, please stay safe.

In what are challenging times for us all, many people have asked me why am I still opening and not at home with my family when I am not a front line worker.

So I wanted to share with you some of the work I did last week....

One of the jobs I undertook was for a nurse, due to changes in public transport she was desperate for her car as without it she was unable to get to work.

Another car I repaired was for lady, she was volunteering in her local community looking after the old and vulnerable doing tasks that due to isolation they were unable to do.

Why have I shared these with you? I am proud to be British and stand on my step at 8pm on a Thursday and clap those that are putting themselves at risk, if I can do my little bit to help them then I am proud to do this.

The government has clearly stated they want garages to remain open so we can undertake these services.

I am taking every possible care to protect my family and implemented stringent measures for social distancing and hygiene.

There is no furlough, no government support and indeed with the 6 month extension on MOT’s as you would expect business is low, but I will continue to support my customers the best way I can whilst still looking after my family.

We have been asked what the situation is regarding MOT’s, if your car is due a MOT before the 30th March 2020, then you MUST still ensure you have your MOT.

If your car is due it’s MOT on or after the 30th March then 6 months will be added to your current MOT. For example if your MOT runs out 2nd April it will be due 2nd October, if it is due 18th April then it will run out 18th October etc etc.

HOWEVER, the government have also made it clear that the responsibility is on you to ensure your car is roadworthy...

“You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.” (From government website)

The government as confirmed that all MOT garages will remain open, so those wishing to still have their MOT and repairs done to their cars can do so.

During these times and with safety of paramount importance for those customers who wish to still have their MOT done - we will be discounting our MOT’s to £30 (this will run for the next 3 months at least until the end of June) .

We have introduced new measures following government guidance on social distancing and hygiene so please do not be offended, the safety of our families must remain our priority in these times.

We are also conducting repairs, but priority will be given on repairs and MOT to the frontline workers.

In these uncertain times, as a family run business we wanted to assure you that our priority is keeping your family and ours safe so we are taking every step to maintain the government guidance around social distancing and hygiene, therefore please do not be offended if we ask you to keep your distance. We see what we do as critical to ensuring that all of those frontline workers are able to get to work to do their job, so we will continue to support all of our customers until such time as the government instructs us not to. We will be prioritising MOT work and repairs to keep vehicles on the road.
