Done your CBT with us? The next step is your gear conversion course.
Your CBT gets you riding on a moped. The gear conversion moves you up to a 125cc geared motorcycle, and it's the bridge between your CBT and your Direct Access training on the bigger bike.
On the course you'll learn clutch control and pulling away smoothly, changing up and down through the gears, and slow riding, stopping and riding out on the road on a geared bike. We go at your pace until it all feels natural.
We provide your motorcycle jacket, helmet and gloves.
What you do need to wear:
Sturdy footwear that covers the ankle. Walking boots or work boots are ideal. Trainers, canvas shoes and anything that leaves your ankle exposed won't do.
Suitable trousers, either jeans or motorcycle trousers. No shorts, leggings or joggers.
Bring your licence and your CBT certificate on the day, and dress for the weather.
Building up your own kit? We have a selection of waterproof clothing and brand new helmets available to buy at A1.

Booked your Direct Access training with us? Here's what to expect and how to turn up ready.
On an average Direct Access training day we cover over 100 miles, so you get proper time in the saddle, not just laps of a car park.
Day 1: Getting used to the bigger, more powerful machine. Stepping up to a 700cc is a big change from a moped or a 125, so we take our time. You'll get a feel for the extra weight, the power and the way the bike handles, and we won't move on until you're confident and in control.
Day 2: Hammering home your observation, signal, manoeuvre drills. We go over them again and again until they're second nature on every junction, roundabout and lane change.
Day 3: Module 1 practice and mileage. We sharpen up your off-road manoeuvres and keep building your road miles and experience.
We provide your motorcycle jacket, helmet and gloves.

At A1, a free tea or coffee is waiting for every student. It's a small thing, but it says a lot about how we do things here.
And when you pass your test, that is not goodbye. You're still part of A1. Bring your new bike round whenever you like. Help yourself to a brew, sit down, have a proper chat with the instructors, and tell us how the riding is going. We love seeing what you're on and hearing how you're getting on out on the road.
This place is one big family. Once you're one of ours, you're always welcome. Pop in anytime.

PASSED - well done James!
James walked through the door at A1 with no bike experience under his belt. Our instructors took him from that first CBT on a 125 geared bike, through three solid days of DAS on a 700cc, and straight onto test day.
On day 4 he smashed Module 1 and Module 2 - both first time. From complete beginner to full licence in four days. That takes grit from James and proper coaching from the team.
Huge congratulations, James. You've worked for this - get out there and enjoy every mile. Ride safe from everyone at A1.

PASSED - congratulations Elisha!
Elisha came to A1 Motorcycle Training with ZERO riding experience - none at all. From her first day she was guided by our expert instructors every step of the way.
She started with a CBT on a moped, then completed a geared conversion course on a 125. Next came 3 days of DAS training on a 700cc. On day 4 she passed BOTH her Module 1 and Module 2 tests - first time.
