A fine pair of Transporters in for service work with us

Firstly, a T5 California - this is a VW factory built camper. It was brought to us for its annual service, which it flew through with no issues due to its superb maintenance history.

We like to keep your vehicle running like the proverbial Swiss watch, meaning you don’t have to fork out a fortune in repairs. We will always advise you very fairly, suggesting genuinely required work but never spending your money where it’s not needed

The second Transporter is a T6, a later version of what has become one of the most popular vans in Europe! Everyone hankers after a Transporter, especially for converting to a camper like this one

Firstly it was serviced thoroughly and then the DSG transmission service was completed (the gearbox is filled with the pressurised bottle you can see in the picture of the van up on the ramp)
Then, for dessert, was a timing belt and coolant pump replacement
It’s vital that a timing belt replacement is carried out using the correct timing tools and procedures to ensure that the engine runs as VW intended, giving smooth power with great economy for years more to come

It may be the end of summer, but it’s always sun and smiles if you own an Audi R8 Spyder!!

A very lucky person had just bought this vehicle and it was brought to us for a service prior to collection

The power unit in this R8 is all business - a 4.2 litre FSi V8 that revs to 8,000rpm and gives a genuinely exciting power delivery and fabulous noise, both vital ingredients in a performance car like this.

For better balance and handling, the mid mounted engine makes use of a dry-sump lubrication system. Rather than having an oil sump (basically a container below the engine that holds all the engine oil, housing the oil pump too) which can add considerable height to the power unit, there is no sump, rather a separate, remote, tank of oil that is pumped around the engine via a network of intricate pathways. This system allows the engine to be mounted much lower and as such reduces the centre of gravity (because racecar)
It’s an expensive set up, which is why you don’t see it in an average hatch back, but when you’re paying 6 figures for a car when it’s new the engineers can afford to go all out

This makes servicing a tad more in-depth, having multiple drain points to ensure that every drop of oil can be removed despite the complexity of its routing

Last instalment (for now at least) on Fifty9 Performance’s M2…. The main event!

Everything we’ve done to this car has made a vast improvement to an already great car but this one has got it all - extra power, extra noise and it looks STUNNING!

This is the full Carbon intake system from MMX
We set about removing the entire original system, including the turbo intake elbows as we fitted improved versions of those too!!

Think of an engine as, basically, an air pump. Yeah, there’s the big boomy bit in the middle that gives us power but ignore that just for a minute…. The key to a powerful engine is air flow. You need the engine to draw in, burn and the expel that air as quickly as possible
The intake is a vital component in this pump system. The original is very good, it IS an M2 after all, but still is designed to be easy and as low cost to mass produce as possible.
This means there’s materials that cause resistance to air flow, sharp elbows and other areas than can be improved upon

This MMX Carbon kit is visually very appealing, but its functionality is even better!

The larger bore pipework, softer curves around the engine bay and super-smooth internal surfaces promote amazing air flow
This reduces the small eddy’s that can build up with high intake air speed, which can cause a surprisingly bad restriction

Once the kit was fitted and the engine bay rebuilt it was time for a test!

Day 2 of uprating Fifty9 Performance’s M2………..

This time it was some more fun upgrades!

A sensible addition was the installation of a new front, alloy undertray that incorporates a guard for the otherwise very exposed oil cooler! This looks great but offers genuine protection for what is a costly part with VERY costly consequences should it get pierced whilst being driven

We also swapped out the wheel spacers to some billet alloy items, adding even more aggression to the stance of the car

Finally was the good bit! A stainless exhaust system that replaces the GPF’s and gives the car a real growl and some much needed vocal volume to that engine’s sound
What a lovely thing it is too! Looks awesome, it’s a shame you can’t see much of it when the car is on the ground…… but BOY can you hear it!!

It’s been a super busy few weeks at BW Autohaus so we’ve got loads to catch you up on….

First, the guys at Fifty9 Performance have invested in a fabulous, brand new BMW M2! This incredible car is to be a rolling test bed and show car for all the amazing tuning and styling parts that we are now able to offer
There’s MUCH more on this to follow, but the job that’s was deemed most vital to complete first was to replace the road springs with a set of MMX lowered items - this benefit is two-fold.
Firstly it REALLY helps with the aesthetics, giving an even more purposeful and aggressive stance to an already angry looking sports car

Secondly is the improvement in body control and handling. BMW’s M department REALLY knows what it’s doing, there’s no argument there, but even M have to produce cars for everyone…. Taking into account the fact that not everyone may not be as careful as they should be and so greater ground clearance is dialled in, as is a softer, more forgiving set up

However, if you want the absolute most possible form your new super-coupe then reduced ride height gives better aerodynamics, lower centre of gravity and firmer body control. All of which, in the right hands, make for an even swifter car
