There’s been a lot of talk across the industry about people moving to larger vans, and we’re seeing it first-hand. Enquiries for medium and long wheelbase pop-tops have increased massively over the last few months.

This week we fitted a pop-top to this MAN TGE long wheelbase.

There are some fantastic roof options out there for these larger vehicles, including the Atek and the new HUP roof, both of which we’re happy to fit. However, they do come at an elevated cost, and that’s not right for everyone.

That’s why we also offer a more affordable roof for these platforms, starting from £3,900 fitted. It still comes with a 5-year warranty and still gives you what you need: an extra 2-berth sleeping space up top, without stretching the budget.

Alongside the roof, we also fitted:

The customer will be completing the interior himself, and we can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Built Around the Bike 🏍️🚐

This Ford Transit Custom High Top came to us with a very clear brief: build everything around the motorbike.

The customer arrived with the floor already fitted and a plan to tour Europe. He wanted the van to carry his bike securely and still give him a proper place to sleep, power and comfort at the end of each riding day. Every part of the layout was planned around that bike.

Here’s what we fitted:
✅ Full custom interior lining package
✅ Maxxfan Deluxe for airflow and ventilation
✅ Roof-mounted solar panel
✅ Cosmic 12V electrical package
✅ Cosmic 240V electrical package
✅ Pull-down bed system that stows away when the bike is loaded

Not every build needs a full conversion. Sometimes the best result is doing exactly what the customer needs, done properly, with nothing extra. This part conversion turns a bike transporter into a self-sufficient base for long trips across the continent.

Workshop update from a week or so ago, forgot to post this one!

Some very cool vans being worked on currently, as real mix of different services that we can offer.

Not every van visits us for a full conversion, we’re very busy with lots of solar panel fittings, electrical packages, stage 1 conversions and also quite a bit of renovations for older vans at the moment!

Now’s the time to get your van into the workshop if you want to be prepared for the season next year, don’t leave it till last minute like most, or you’ll be faced with much longer lead times from January onwards, get it done now whilst your van is out of daily use and can be worked on without the rush for the camping season!

We’re building more off-grid campervans than ever. Here’s why. ⚡

A few years ago, going fully off-grid was hard to justify. Lithium batteries and the components around them were simply too expensive for most builds, so gas was the sensible choice.

That’s changed. Lithium has come down significantly in price, and in our opinion an off-grid setup now makes more sense than gas for most people:

🔋 A bigger battery, so you get far more capability away from hook-up
🍳 Induction cooking, with no gas bottles to refill or carry
✨ A cleaner, more practical layout without the gas locker

So we’ve made it simple. Full off-grid packages are now available on all of our Orion full conversions.

There’s been a lot of chat in the industry lately about the new-shape Ford Transit Custom and the new VW T7 🚐

The most common thing we hear is “at the end of the day, it’s still a Ford van” — and there’s some truth in that, as the two share a platform. But having worked on both in the workshop, we do think the VW brings a few things to the table that are worth mentioning.

The build quality feels a little more refined, there’s a wider range of factory options to choose from, and personally we think the T7 is the nicer-looking van of the two. From a conversion point of view it’s also a lovely van to work with, which makes life easier for our team and means a cleaner result for you.

One thing we really like is VW’s 5-year peace of mind promise plan — for anyone investing in a conversion, that extra reassurance goes a long way.

That said, we convert both and we love both. Whichever you go for, we’ll build you something special. We’d love to hear which one you’d choose — let us know in the comments 😊

The moment it all comes together 🚐✨

This is the first time our customer laid eyes on his finished Ford Transit Connect — and his reaction says everything we could hope to say about a build.

A Connect is a fair bit smaller than the T6.1s and Transit Customs that usually roll through our workshop, but that’s exactly what made this one such a satisfying project. Smaller van, same standards.

We put our heads together, worked around every inch of dead space (the customer wanted to keep the bulkhead, so we made that work for him rather than against him), and built a seriously capable camper into a compact footprint.

What’s packed in: ▪️ Bike stow / pull-out bed system with a sliding pull-out tray ▪️ Full electrics — 3,000W Renogy inverter, 300Ah Renogy lithium battery, our standard 12V package and a 240V hook-up package ▪️ Autoterm diesel heater ▪️ Full insulation, sound-deadening, carpeting and flooring package

We genuinely love getting a wide variety of vehicles through the doors. Big van, small van, something we’ve never touched before — the goal never changes: deliver the best finished product we possibly can.

A recent review by the fantastic Stewart who visited us from Scotland for his custom van conversion:

“When converting my Ford Transit Custom, I didn’t want a standard full-package Campervan. I wanted a true one-solution-fits-all leisure vehicle to replace my seven-seat MPV for school runs, cycling, and weekend trips. While other installers lost interest if you didn’t buy their off-the-shelf package, Cosmic Campervans were completely different—happy to build exactly what I needed, without any hard sell.
After watching their YouTube channel, I reached out and traveled all the way from Scotland to Derby. Dario and Matt’s communication was top-tier from day one, helping turn my ideas into a brilliant spec. Throughout the build, regular progress pictures kept the kids excited, and their advice to go with the MobiFrame bed system and one-piece composite floor with rails was spot-on for flexibility. Plus, the friendly banter made the whole process a pleasure.
Like any custom build during busy times, a supplier faced a slight delay—something entirely normal in this industry. What stood out was Dario’s total transparency. He didn’t hide a thing, and when I asked for an email reassurance regarding the late part, he provided it immediately and backed it up with a cast-iron promise to make things right if anything went wrong. That level of honesty won my total trust because I face similar issues in my working life.
Picking up the van and going through a thorough handover sealed the deal. The finish is incredible—neat, tidy, and professional. Back home, neighbours keep swinging past the driveway just to look inside, and everybody goes straight for the acoustic ceiling with the remote-controlled LED strip light system (I believe I’m one of the first to get it, and it’s a knockout).
Cosmic Campervans are at the absolute top of their game. I wouldn’t look anywhere else for future work. Massive thanks to Dario, Matt, and the team!”

The part we love most? A lot of those enquiries are from customers coming back to us. People who had a Transporter or a Transit Custom a few years ago and have simply outgrown it. The family’s got bigger, the trips have got longer, or they just want more room to stretch out.

So we’re acting on it. We’ve ordered our first medium-wheelbase MAN, landing in around 8 to 10 weeks, and it’s going to become our new demo van. The aim is a practical, affordable large-van conversion built to the same standard as everything else that leaves our workshop. We’ll be sharing the full build as it comes together, so keep an eye out. 🔧
