BOXSTER CUP AT OULTON PARK

Championship pacesetters Ethan Hall and Luca Masarati soon went clead in the first Boxster Cup race. Hall was never seriously challenge and won by over four seconds, with Masarati retaining a clead second. Perry Darling vacated third when hit the Lakeside barrier after four laps, leaving Kuba Woznia and Brooklyn Howell fighting for the final podium place. They shared a couple of exchanges, with Wozniak ahead as the red flags came out, with Stuart Warner off at Shell. Howell therefore regained the place on countback.

Wozniak got his reward in race two though with a maiden victory, after Hall retired to the pits five laps in with engine problems. Masarati battled through to claim second again, after an off at Brittens chicane and despite a jump start penalty. Howell was third on the road, track limits dropped him a place in favour of Brendan Haffner.

FERRARI CLASSIC AT OULTON PARK

Colin Sowter’s F355 Spider has an easy win in the first Ferrari Classic race, after lead pair Wayne Marrs and Tristan Simpson both retired to the pits on the fourth lap. Simpson was back out for race two though and won easily.

FOCUS CUP AT OULTON PARK

TOPLEY DOUBLE IN FOCUS CUP

Ali Topley was another double winner in the Focus Cup. After Jonathan Baker retired from second two laps from home, he became a dual between Mark McCann and Richard Wynne, with Simon Walton close at the end too.

Baker and Walton followed Topley home in race too, with Rich Hall dropped to fourth, after leading until the penultimate lap.

PORSCHE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP AT OULTON PARK

ANOTHER DOUBLE WIN FOR CHAMPION McALEER

Reigning Porsche Club Champion Jake McAleer’s 997S was a double win, but two vastly different races. In race one he was shadowed by Ed Hayes’ Cayman from start to finish, split by just 0.543 secs, with Peter Morris just holding off Mark McAleer for third in an equally close dual.

A multiple collision at Old Hall called for a restart in race two, but had eliminated four cars. Hayes led initially, but from the second lap McAleer was in charge again. With Hayes retiring to the pits after five laps, Morris was second, but had to fight off a determined Chris Dyer during the second half, both finishing well clear of Barrington Darcy’s class winning Boxster.

EX LE MANS CHALLENGER

Porsche Sprint Challenge contender Giancarlo Romano is looking to mix classic and modern racing. He’s already had a couple of Sprint Challenge podiums this year and is now looking at the Le Mans Classic too. He was out at Donington recently testing a Tuthill Racing Porsche 911 GT3-RS, with an excellent pedigree.

Still in it’s 2004 Le Mans 24hrs livery where it came 15th overall and fourth in class with Anthony Burgess, Phillip Collin and Andrew Bagnall, Romano shared the test in the ex Seikel Motorsport car with Oli Webb. “We’ve already been to Catalunya with the car, it’s just great to drive,” said Romano.

THORPE TRIES HIS "NEW" HOLDEN!!

James Thorpe has added a 1990 Holden Commodore VL to his collection and hopes to race it in the Peter Auto Historic touring Car Challenge. The car was raced at Bathurst and Sandown in 1990 and is the sister car to another TWR built car now raced in the UK by Mike Whittaker.

The car now run by Valley Motorsport is due a full rebuild before its planned debut at Imola in October. “It car raced in Australia for a number of years and then seemed to disappear. It was rebuilt by MRM in England and we saw it earlier this year in Dijon and James decided to buy it,” a team spokesman explained.

Phil Keen gave the car a shakedown before handing to Thorpe. “It’s a fantastic car, promising, but needs sorting,” said Thorpe. It is currently in its livery from 1994, when Peter Macleod raced it with son Ryan and Kevin Burton.

US RACER TRIES HIS 962C AT DONINGTON

US racer Tom Mueller drove his ex Richard Lloyd Racing Porsche 962C for the first time at Donington recently. “I flew in from the States the day before, did the test and then went to drive it at Brands Hatch,” he said.

The car is in it’s original livery from the 1989 Le Mans 24hrs, when it was driven by Derek Bell, James Weaver and Tiff Needell as Cabin Racing. It didn’t quite reach the finish however, retiring with a fire after 23 hours.

Mueller has mainly raced in regional Porsche Championships in the US, but also boasts a Daytona winning Corvette in his collection.

FUN CUP ENDURANCE UK CHAMPIONSHIP -ANGLESEY

TEAM VIKING & URSUS CAPITAL RACING

It was Fun Cup time again and after missing the Snetterton round, Colin Kingsnorth was back to share with Mark Holme at Anglesey.

They were 16th quickest after the morning qualifying, but their luck had already turned for the worst, in the following draw for grid positions, they pulled out second to last place.

Holme was in for the first stint and had climbed to 16th place at the first pitstop window, from 27th on the grid.

At the end of the first hour they were in 17th, but apart from the top six, most of the field was running nose to tail.

But after a short safety car period, Kingsnorth was making progress again, staying out late he made the second stop from 10th, but it hadn’t been without drama. “There was a break knock and I started to lose it, but then I hit the accelerator rather than the brake and did lose it,” he admitted.

But precious time was being lost at the pitstops. “I gained a few positions at the start and we had top 10 pace, but it was like the fuel was vapourising and it killed us at the stops,” Holme explained.

They had dropped to 22nd after two hours had been completed. “It was just a case of doing what we could as we couldn’t cure it,” Holme added.

They finally finished 20th, but 13 laps off the lead, “extremely disappointing” was the conclusion with hopes of finding a cure for the second race.

This time they drew 17th place with Kingsnorth starting. But it was obvious from the start the problems from race one hadn’t been solved, as he was struggling to stay in the top 20.

They made the first stop ninth after staying gout to the end of the window again, but on rejoining they were back in 17th and struggling at the first hour.

It was to get worse before the end though when the throttle cable snapped it looked like game over. The car was recovered and eventually rejoined to finish the race 20th.

“I enjoyed my golf the day before and we started with some optimism. But both races ended in disappointment,” Holme concluded.
