Born on this day in 1821 - Old Tom Morris.
In 1886, he was invited to extend Royal Dornoch from nine holes to eighteen, crafting a course that still feels as natural today as it did then.
Using the existing dunes and raised plateaus, Old Tom positioned greens on the land’s high points, creating the distinctive plateau surfaces that define the Championship Course.
Demanding approaches. Elevated targets. Miss them and the challenge only deepens.
By letting the Highlands terrain provide the defence, he left behind something timeless, unspoiled, and endlessly compelling.
A true pioneer. A lasting legacy.
