Warning to anyone buying a new car ,mainly diesel powered vehicles with a dpf. Please check the exhaust tailpipe for deposits of soot,a very small amount is ok ,ideally none at all but definitely not furred up with soot.If already purchased have your local garage check the emissions while the car is in warranty because we have had a lot of cars come for their mot only to fail because the dpf has been gutted and the engine computer remapped to prevent fault warning light appearing on the dash .Dpf’s cost between £1000-£3000 before fitting which could add another £300-£400 and then possibly an ecu another £1000-£2000 .These vehicles would have failed the mot but some how some garages are passing them, these garages are the bad guys not the ones failing them correctly.
Remember dpf cars should show no visible smoke from the exhaust.
