Happy 19th business birthday to me (LinkedIn says!)
Wow, it’s officially 19 years of POPBANGCOLOUR, in 2007 I was still a part-time VT art lecturer at Sutton Coldfield college.
This after being a barman in a pub & nighclub post university. I was 24 years old and with a dream of being a full time artist.
At that time there was an opportunity to use a vacant shop unit in Wolverhampton’s Wulfrun shopping centre - as I also was part of a group art show linked with Wolverhampton art gallery.
In this shop, I was able to use the space to create large artworks with radio controlled cars, tyres & wheels. These the first artwork I created using the process.
From creating these artworks, local news & TV came to film me. This led to newspaper articles nationally & creating at my first car events in 2008.
October 2007 doesn’t feel like it was 19 years ago, but the rollercoaster of business & journey I have been continues to shape POPBANGCOLOUR today.
These artworks created in Wolverhampton, still exist & can be seen thestudio... in Birmingham City Centre - where my wife took these photos today whilst at a conference.
A big thank you to Emma Jennings & Nigel for believing in me then!
Think I’ll plan something big for 20 years next year.
