I have taken this from another Police force. But relevant to our area.
Good morning, Corsham / Chippenham❄️ We’ve woken up in a winter wonderland, but before you slide out the door like Bambi on ice, here’s a friendly reminder: Stay Safe in the Snow!
Here’s what we don’t want: You starring in the next viral video outside Jephson Gardens. 🛑 So grab a cuppa, read this, and save yourself some dignity.
Driving in Corsham / Chippenham:
•If your car looks like a Dalek under all the snow, you haven’t de-iced properly. Clear it up before you drive.
•Our famous roundabouts? They’ve turned into Olympic curling rinks. Stay in your lane (literally), keep it slow, and for heaven’s sake, no doughnuts in the Morrisons car park!
•If you can’t see because your windscreen wipers are frozen stiff, that’s your sign: stay home.
•Pack Like You’re Headed to Narnia: Keep a blanket, coat, gloves, snacks, water, a phone charger, and (very importantly) biscuits in your car. You never know when you might need to wait for help.
•Full Tank, Full Confidence: Make sure you’ve got plenty of fuel. Getting stuck and running out of fuel is a plot twist nobody wants.
•Drive Like You’ve Got a Cake on the Dashboard: Gentle acceleration, slow braking, and no sudden moves.
Walking to Work or School:
•The Pump Room Gardens are breathtaking in the snow—but they’re also a slippy trap. One wrong step and you’ll be doing an impromptu snow angel. Stick to the salted paths, please or crunchy grass.
•Shoes Matter! Ditch the trendy trainers and pull out those sturdy, grippy boots your nan keeps raving about. They might not be fashionable, but neither is landing on your backside.
•Ditch the handbag. Swap it for a rucksack to keep your hands free to balance yourself. If you do slip, it’s easier to pretend it was a cool parkour move when your arms aren’t flailing like a windmill.
•Bridges are particularly treacherous. Hold on to the sides and take it slowly.
•Top tip: Walk like a penguin. Waddle = safety, and it’s a great excuse to bond with your kids or colleagues over your new fashionable shuffle.
Parents please remind your kids about frozen rivers and pools. NO ONE should be going near water. 🚨
We know kids love snow—it’s magical, exciting, and apparently the best time to test their balance on ice. But we need to make one thing crystal clear: no one should be going near water—frozen or otherwise.
Stay warm Corsham / Chippenham. And remember, there’s no shame in pulling a duvet day if it’s not safe for you to go out. The snow will melt, but your accidental viral video will live forever.
With love (and a sprinkling of salt),
Leamington Police
