Decisions, decisions… 🌳
Allensford Woodland or the Project Genesis Heritage Trail? Both start right here from Derwentside, so we’ll leave that one with you.

🌿 With the school holidays hovering upon the horizon, it's the perfect time to help kids unplug and find fun outdoors. Bollihope Burn is one of our favoureite local beauty spots, and is a popular summer destination for families on the lookout for a day out that won't break the bank.

Summer at Bollihope is all about splashing in the stream, hunting for bugs, and watching the sheep wandering the hills. Despite its beautifully remote location, you'll often even find an ice cream van ready to cool you down with frozen treats, making your day out even sweeter 🍦

With one of the region's most treasured attractions only a short drive away, we had to find out for ourselves what makes Beamish so special ✨

A time-travelling day out took us from the 1900s down the pits to the 1950s. We discovered first-hand the cramped conditions of the coal mines, enjoyed a trip to the fairground and sampled some beautiful traditional fish and chips from the coal-fired fryers. We witnessed the birth of the electronic age, with the convenience of modern appliances being sold for the first time, and saw a small glimpse of life through the first half of the 20th century; through its fashion, its decor and lifestyles. All this is told through a wonderful attention to detail and a fantastic team brimming with knowledge on life at that time.

While we had a wonderful day (and it was scorching!), we simply couldn't take in all the living museums sights in one visit - which makes its annual pass tickets even more inviting so that we can revisit through the seasons at no extra cost.

If you're yet to visit, we highly recommend a day out, or for families, it will likely become a regular day trip throughout the year.

We only have a handful of seasonal pitches remaining. If a calm riverside setting is what you’re dreaming of, reach out soon and make this spring the start of something special 🌸

🐑 If you’re looking for a brilliant family day out this half‑term, Hall Hill Farm is a firm favourite of ours and is sure to appeal to animal lovers and little adventures alike - and it's under 15 minutes away.

Little ones can feed the animals, hop on the tractor rides, brave the mega slide, and even cheer on the sheep racing. The kids will be entertained from the moment you arrive, and the grown‑ups are sure to enjoy it just as much - especially since they can cuddle the guinea pigs and take a turn on the mega slide themselves!

Before you head over, it’s worth checking availability and what activities are running, as some experiences may vary at this time of year.
