Hopefully this will help bring waiting times down. Getting rid of the companies that sell on test dates and putting a stop to unscrupulous driving instructors selling on their pupils data.

We’re putting learners in control of their car driving test bookings 🚘

If you’ve got a booking or you’ll be looking for a test soon, make a note of these dates 📅

31 March 2026 – only 2 changes can be made to a booking

12 May 2026 – only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes

9 June 2026 – learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres

By changing who can book car and change driving tests, we’re aiming to reduce the re-selling of driving tests, giving the power back to learners 💪

We've launched a new Road Safety Strategy, aiming to cut deaths and serious injuries on Britain’s roads by 65% by 2035.

Key points include:
- tougher action on drink driving
- minimum learning periods for learner drivers
- mandatory eye tests for older drivers

Please check that your driving instructor is fully qualified.

Since the pandemic there has been a lot of new instructors appearing on our roads, many just displaying L Plates or blank top boxes.

A fully qualified instructor MUST display a green badge clearly in their front window whenever instructing, if a driver is displaying a pink badge, this means they have a temporary 6 month trainee licence as they are still training and have yet to take and pass their third and final test to become fully qualified.

Please double check who you are paying your hard earned money to and ensure that you are getting the professional training that your are paying for.

Illegal driving lesson intercepted today in Bletchley. Student unaware but paying £37.50 per hour for an unqualified instructor. Insurance invalidated, 6 points for ‘instructor’, criminal investigation commenced and vehicle seized. Paying for professional driving lessons? Is your instructor displaying a green or pink DVSA badge in the windscreen?
