For ten years, Greg worked for nothing to keep his family’s wheelwright business alive.
In an age of carbon fibre, aluminium and automation, it would be easy to assume the wooden wheel had disappeared.
It hasn’t.
Greg Rowland is one of Britain’s last traditional wheelwrights, and after more than 700 years in his family’s hands, his workshop is still turning out wheels for carriages, cannon, historic vehicles and more.
He’s also one of the remarkable craftspeople you’ll be able to meet in person at The Modern Ruralist Craft Yard at The Game Fair, 24th-26th July at Ragley Hall.
Come and meet Greg and son-in-law Sam. Watch them work. Ask questions. These skills survive because people still care enough to see them.
