🔧 Doosan DL420-7 – Non-Start Issue Resolved

Called out to a Doosan DL420-7 loading shovel with a non-start issue.
First check — battery voltage — it was low, so we jump-started it from another machine and tested the alternator output. It was only charging at 20 volts, yet no battery light was showing on the dash.

We also noted an SCR fault code, but with experience comes knowledge — and our engineers know when not to chase the wrong problem. Keep it simple: check the basics first.

On this machine, the alternator runs via a PWM (pulse width modulation) control, so you can’t just check the D+ terminal for a live feed — a normal voltmeter won’t pick it up properly. Luckily, we have the PicoScope, which let us check the waveform.
The signal was perfect — confirming the issue was 100% the alternator itself.

At 5pm we diagnosed it, by 8pm we had a new alternator collected, and by 7am the next morning the machine was back up and working.

That’s what we call efficiency and expert fault finding — done right the first time.

🚧 Volvo A25G Dump Truck – Drive Loss Investigation & On-Site Repair ⚙️

Customer reported an intermittent drive issue — the machine was cutting in and out of drive, then changing through gears unexpectedly.

We were called to site, and our engineer began a methodical investigation of the drive system. Because the fault wasn’t constant, it was a tricky one — but with experience and a systematic approach, our technician soon found the cause.

Focusing on the front drive differential, we noticed the front prop shaft spinning with no drive. Oils were drained and inspected — and sure enough, we found metallic debris and chunks in the hub oil and differential.

The customer was informed straight away, and thanks to them acting quickly and taking the machine out of service, no further damage occurred.

🔧 The fault was traced to a snapped 3-spline half shaft.

Both sides of the axle were stripped right down — bearings, wet brake packs, and seals all inspected. Every component was cleaned in our parts washer to remove contamination from the failure.

✅ Differential saved
✅ New bearings and seals fitted
✅ All work completed on site to reduce downtime and transport costs
