What with the technology of modern cars, it can be for some very challenging to ascertain what is not going as it should with anyone's Car.
However since 2000 all cars have what is called an EOBD socket which enables a technician to plug in a diagnostic tool, this will give you a code and a brief discretion of the faul, but there could be several faults that it display. Only one fault might be relevant, the other faults are caused by only one of the faults, but which one?
This is where experience comes in, but not always easy.
Main dealers have far more advanced diagnostic equipment than most non franchised garages, but they still tend to replace parts to see if it fixes the problem, as the part is possible in stock. All very well if it dose, but if it does not the customer has a bill for sometimes hundreds of pounds and still the problem is there.
Although I have up to date diagnostic equipment I cannot fix every problem, but I do have access to people who can.
So give me a call if only for advice, but I cannot diagnose faults over the phone.
