Jaguar Ipace had a little breakdown 🛠️
First no wall box charging was going on ⚡ because EVs use a lock pin so you can't pull the cable out. Because apart from a comic book character, who really wants to be flailing 430v cables around 🤷 so I changed the locking motor out. Of course being JLR it was half the car apart......
Not only but also; it wasn't charging it's 12v battery 🔋 even though it carries 400v, it needs a 12v battery to engage all those volts ⚡ and the DTCs showed a fault with the DC-DC converter. Basically an alternator for an EV. I tested the wiring connections to it, pretty simple live earth and CANBUS. With those giving a positive result we moved to changing the unit itself, which is in a jaguar electric sandwich.
All done and road-tested, wall box charged 🔌 and returned to the customer 🚗✅

E-nv200 has an insulation fault, traced to one module. Everything else seems ok ✅

Checking out the off board high voltage battery gear from autel. You can plug this into a battery on the bench and read the cell/module values etc before fitting the pack 👌

Not one but two e-nv200s in! Both don't enter ready mode. One insulation fault, one has HVIL issues.
I actually have a soft spot for the simplicity of these things, so I'm happy to be playing with them 😎
I'll have some more reports when I've done so hard digging 📝

Not all diagnostics are electric faults. This nissan juke alternator was spinning merrily away, but slipping drive meant the cut in speed fell too low and charging ceased ❌

Down at the Hythe branch today, finding out 5v pwm sensor feedback signals exist 😂 nothing major to report other than that, carry on 🫡

Fiat abarth 595 with an intermittent EML 💡
One DTC, evap valve stuck.
I'm sure that's well easy on many cars, but a new valve is £300+ and only accessible if you strip a lot down or you have eight inch long fingers that bend in six places. It's like a Renault! 🤦
So I went by my powers of deduction. Fuel cap seals, tell tale hiss as you undo it ✅
Check long term fuel trim, it's negative so no air leaks ruling out a break in the pipe ✅
The only way it's getting too much fuel short of injector issues is the vent valve stuck open. And the mityvac proves it.
New one fitted, quite thankful the owners added a cambelt change in so a lot of the chod was coming off anyway 👍

VW golf with a Christmas tree dashboard 🎄
All ABS related stuff, ESP, TPMS, hill start etc.
No output of left rear speed sensor. So I tried a DTC delete and it's a static DTC, so I was thinking it's a circuit fault 🤔
Doesn't harm to throw the oscilloscope on it I thought. Both got a voltage ⚡ a few hundred millivolts different. And then I spun them. I know it's a vehicle that requires directional speed sensors, it's in the live data pids. Unfortunately someone has fitted a standard hall type in it ❌

2020 jaguar Ipace 🐆
Intermittent warnings and restrictions and lack of charging. Only a few DTCs in it, mostly APIX faults.. front and rear inverter contractors opening as consequence to p0aa6 insulation fault in high voltage battery 🔋
That will stop most things, so we pulled the BECM out and tested the high voltage connections under it after we safely powered it down.
Insulation fails, 100k ohm on the insulation tester, not good! Take the screws out that run by the connections and our readings became 14Mohm- huge improvement! The screws were helping the braided tails inside the edge of the battery to leak voltage to chassis earth ⚡ you can see the evidence in the pic.
Unfortunately to access that, it's battery out and strip it. 610kg of battery 🥵
And 144 machine screws 🥵
But we changed the baseplate and repeated our measurements; we in Giga ohms now💪
All reassembled carefully and put together, sixteen miles road test monitoring live insulation data in the bcm. Charged on the wall box too ✅ job done.

Jaguar i pace battery is huge! I think I might move in 😂
This is the upper cover, We've been right inside the belly of the beast with this one.
Insulation issues, an in depth post will happen when I'm satisfied with my test results 😉
