Nice bit of training today with Steve Rouse from Vehicle Technology Solutions ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Covering some texa features, autel EV and secure gateway technology and how we use it.
Interesting stuff! All the security because two kids hacked a jeep ๐Ÿคฏ
Thanks Steve ๐Ÿ‘

Audi sq5 in with a veritable cornucopia of warning lights โš ๏ธ
As most every vehicle system relies on vehicle speed for something or other, so it's often a fair bet that ABS faults if found are to blame.
I'm trying to think of a non intrusive way of fault finding, but I've had VAG sensors that had mechanical DTCs yet not circuit DTCs and it was the sensor at fault before; you'll be down to 12v and earth on the scope just like the wheel isn't turning ๐Ÿ›ž
Well I over layed the OSR to the NSR sensor and readings come back. Swapped the sensor as it's the only valid test I had, still nothing โŒ
So I put through for a wheel bearing suspecting a reluctor issue. Wasn't wrong was I ๐Ÿ˜‚
I genuinely have no idea what has happened though ๐Ÿคท it's like a sharp edge has lathed the material off ๐Ÿ˜ณ
I cleaned the area thoroughly with a roloc disc, reassembled and live data'd it, putting all four wheel speeds on a reasonably slow graphing mode to show any drop outs. All things working as they should โœ…

2021 vauxhall movano
I got into this one half way through. My colleague had fitted an adblue injector and had the DPF cleaned as the injector had decided to go full open and drown everything in adblue. After this, it set a Nox sensor 2 learning code, which dealer bulletin says change the sensor. This had no effect ๐Ÿคฆ
I hit the Opus IVS EU/RoW hotline and the master tech (Boris, he's amazing!) showed me the service bay inducement test. I tried it, and fifteen minutes in it blew burning adblue everywhere ๐Ÿคฎ you can see the results as nox 2 hit 3000ppm!
So we have an obvious excess of adblue ๐Ÿค” back on the ramp I ran an adblue injector leak test and checked the pressure from the tank. All ok โœ…
Wired a resistance box in to simulate the injector and scoped the pattern, was a really good waveform. This was in service bay inducement again as these can take 30 miles to induce after resets ๐Ÿ˜
What then happened solved a lot. Scr conversion without injecting adblue, a healthy 60% until adblue dissipated ๐Ÿคฏ
So what actually happened? Lots. The learning DTC comes from when resets done for dpf/scr cleaning and when nox sensor 2 came online it was reading a ppm much higher than it wanted to see. Why? It seems a lot of residual adblue left in the scr had to burn off to achieve the readings the pcm wanted to see.
Covered all bases, fitted a new thermostat to raise all temperatures for better inducement. Online software update (opus again, they're so good!) as if failed service bay test on catalyst temperature (known issue). Lots of road testing got it inducing and all EOBD monitors set ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Passenger window inoperative, down a little at the edge. Doesn't make a sound or click or anything ๐Ÿค”
Entered the service mode and used the multimedia screen as it's own diag tool ๐Ÿ˜Ž checked live data of the switch functions, DTCs and ran a calibration of the window. That timed out, not even a hint of it doing something ๐Ÿคท Tesla instructions say force power down reset next, done that- no dice ๐ŸŽฒ
Pulled the door card, someone had removed the motor and cable tied the regulator ๐Ÿ˜‚
Not what you expect from a 3 year old model 3 with 17k on the clock!

Should be simple, BMW 116i with a vibration.
Actually it had an intermittent misfire that took a 15min drive to replicate ๐Ÿš—

These things have a reputation for eating injectors, but they aren't fun to access. Easy test, move the coil pack โšก
It moved ๐Ÿฅณ four new coils and plugs โœ…
But when you get a faulty new coil pack that just happens to fall into that cylinder; things get weird ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ
Found a great test that involved disconnecting the valvetronic at full valve lift ๐Ÿ’ก drives like a normal car and opens the valves fully to highlight or prove valvetrain or intake misfires.
Valve opening at idle and low torque is only 2mm ๐Ÿคฏ and that low airflow can be a breeding ground for compiling issues. Full lift is 9mm, healthy airflow ๐Ÿ’จ
We found the problem, made a new problem and fixed that like a professional with quality test procedures ๐Ÿ‘
Bosch kts mode 6 made light work of tracking misfiring cylinders.
Four quality coils and the vehicle is spot on.

In for spanner light on and electric traction fault message on the dash โšก
It turns out the AC pump had an internal fault.
Say what? ๐Ÿค” AC fault is a major dash warning โš ๏ธ? Well yes, because gone are the days when all AC done was to make you cold and your engine economy fall off a cliff. This is a super complex system that uses refrigerant to cool and heat not just the heater but the electric motor and the traction battery pack!
Used oscilloscope testing to check the control unit power supply and LINbus communication before writing it off โœ…
Fitted a new AC compressor unit , filled with fresh gas and coded with diagbox ๐Ÿ‘ it's running nice and cold โ„๏ธ just wrap it up tomorrow with a roadtest and check it charges before the customer gets their car back ๐Ÿš—

2023 range rover. Customer complaint of battery going flat after SOTA update.
The update thing is just a coincidence, SOTA updates on these are 99% infotainment bug fixes.
So I went to check the battery. I couldn't! It's bolted from underneath with no access. A bit of reading and the reason becomes clear ๐Ÿ’ก it's a 12v lithium starter battery ๐Ÿ”‹
I tried the battery test on our JLR dealer tool, it wouldn't complete. And reading under the bonnet it takes a max of 13.6v charging/jumping โšก
Our lovely new gysflash chargers actually have a lithium battery setting, so I charged it and carried out the topix test again, "do not replace battery". Which is nice because it's 90mins to change and over ยฃ1000 ๐Ÿคฏ
Turns out there's a more conventional software update available for quiescent drain, carried out successfully by my colleague ๐Ÿ‘Œ nice bit of learning right there ๐Ÿ‘

Porsche 718 Cayman failed it's MOT on EML and traction control light ๐Ÿ’ก
Initial code scan pointed us towards a fault with the exhaust cam sensor on bank 2. Located, called in a wiring diagram.... Wished I hadn't ๐Ÿ˜‚ it's entirely ๐Ÿ”ต wires, because the dealer tool is interactive๐Ÿ˜ฌ I don't have that.
Checked it's fused supply with load and voltage, all ok. I couldn't check the earth as it goes to half the sensors on the car. I scoped the waveforn and referenced it with the inlet cam sensor. Way down on output voltage โŒ
It's a hall sensor and a low output is going to be down to power/ground, low magnetic inductance due to reluctor/swarf or the sensor has issues. I pulled the sensor out and checked what I could. I knew the power was good so I looped the earth across to the intake sensor to rule out local wiring. Confirmed dead sensor. And that's apparently pretty rare, even more so given the car has only done 14k miles ๐Ÿคฏ
Genuine new sensor and a good road test, MOT retest and the owner has their beautiful car back ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Of course I scoped it after, confirming I did indeed fix it ๐Ÿ”ง

Sometimes you get a symptom that just makes your head spin ๐Ÿคฏ
Customer went to the local national tyre chain for tyre pressures. Topped pressures up, car no longer starts..... The local national tyre chain sold a new starter motor and I quote " car now starts on the ramp but not on the floor" ๐Ÿค”
At this point I was "pull the other one, it's got bells on!" ๐Ÿ””๐Ÿ˜‚
But no, it's kinda true ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
Kinda because it's about 65% likely to crank in the air and 0% likely on the floor. Wiring fault traced โœ…
I really don't like Kia wiring diagrams ๐Ÿคฃ but it's learning ๐Ÿ˜Ž
