Jaguar i pace battery is huge! I think I might move in πŸ˜‚
This is the upper cover, We've been right inside the belly of the beast with this one.
Insulation issues, an in depth post will happen when I'm satisfied with my test results πŸ˜‰

This little BMW 2 series plug in hybrid has been fun .
Battery had a failed high voltage module, like 0.5v ⚑. These are all connected and identified by the vehicle, because of this it needed to be repaired elsewhere. The reason for this is the EOS code for post repairs, you can't just teach them in, without the code through ISTA it just won't switch on. Those EOS testers are pretty expensive especially if you don't need one very often.
This is now fully repaired running and driving and also charging on the wall box. None of this it did when it was recovered in. Another great EV fix βœ…

I know it's hybrid, but Ev sounds better πŸ˜‰

Back on the 2023 Renault kangoo. Turns out the broken wire wasn't the end of the story, because on road test we got a spike in charge cooler temps again. Tested, pump showing no current draw. New pump fitted and bled, we just need to road test it and check it's all sorted βœ…

Audi A3 had an issue with it's folding mirrors πŸͺž
Actually the folding part works when you use the mirror switch but not when you lock the vehicle πŸ”’ That suddenly rules out a lot of possibilities and narrows our field of testing πŸ•΅οΈ
So I got the pico scope out, and scoped the electric lock assembly in the driver's door. It has three switches inside, although only two are relevant to our fault. And sure enough we get motor current from the central locking motor and one switch we found did absolutely nothing. This is lock confirmation, showing the mechanism had internally failed and not reaching a position the door control module was happy with. Therefore it wouldn't fold the mirror in because it thought the latch was not locked πŸ”’ New latch fitted, mirror folding away like when it left the factory βœ…

Just a quick tip I live by. Before measuring any signals with your scope, put it on the battery first! Honestly I knew this tip from like 2020, but once I skipped it and nearly misdiagnosed a vehicle!
That was measuring canbus on a transit, and a poor connection at the scope changed the recessive voltage. Across a 12v battery it read 8v 🫣 wasted time and nearly a bad diagnosis.
Fast forward to today's fun, measuring the inputs and outputs of an Audi A3 door control module. A poor setup here could spell disaster πŸ’₯ or at least a lot of pointless expense for the customer πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°
And if you like that, check out mechanic mindsets 5 easy scope tips on YouTube, this is tip #1 πŸ™Œ

So I've been away πŸŒžβ›±οΈ And I haven't had a lot of finished or interesting cases 🀷 So here's some examples of stuff that got looked at in the last few weeks.
The 2024 kangoo had a dual fault- adblue injector performance. Not a circuit issue, I got the static resistance up to 30c from the manufacturer and worked an algorithm to check it at higher temperatures, it's high but still in spec. It's actually crusted up with crystalline adblue. Second issue is the charge cooler overheated πŸ₯΅ in testing the +12v feed to the charge cooler electric pump fell over on a load test. And the factory wiring diagram doesn't have a pin location for the wire into the fuse board πŸ™„ but definitely wire break somewhere. gone to the main dealer now for warranty βœ…
The 2 series has a hybrid battery failure, one module is flagging under a volt ⚑ I took the battery pack out and that's going away for repair rather than in house because customer decision. And that's fine because they are the people we want to keep happy βœ…
The fiat 500 has intermittent battery drain, could probably benefit from an overnight logger but flat battery in the morning and DTCs matching the bulletins; blue&me module failure. I think the rest of the world has done more of these than I've had hot dinners but it's a first for me πŸ˜‚
The Dacia had a dual fault too, coolant temperature issue intermittent - was a terminal tension issue. Shown testing the signal wire in a disconnected state for load checking. Secondly oxygen sensor two heater circuit. The sensor is open circuit, another one done βœ…
Tiguan in for tailgate inoperative today. Used the live data on Bosch kts, such a cracking tool I don't use often enough sometimes. But it's horses for courses πŸ‡ checked the wiring at the motor and yeah, failed latch.
Nothing record breaking here, just little things keeping our customers happy 😊
