Welcome to the TyreSafe partnership network, Staffordshire Police

We’re pleased to announce our new partnership with Staffordshire Police, working together to raise awareness of the vital role tyres play in keeping people safe on the road.

The need for regular tyre checks was highlighted during Operation Doxey, where 30 vehicles underwent technical inspections. Seven tyre and wheel-related defects, mechanical risks and pressure discrepancies were identified — including a tyre cut through to the cord, significantly incorrect tyre pressures, an embedded nail, a missing wheel nut and an 11-year-old tyre.

These findings are a reminder that tyre problems aren’t always obvious.

Before you set off, take a few minutes to check:
🔹 Tyre pressure
🔹 Tread depth
🔹 Overall condition
🔹 Signs of damage or embedded objects

Staffordshire Police joins more than 260 organisations partnering with TyreSafe to help make Britain’s roads safer.

75% of tyre defects were due to lack of maintenance in FATAL incidents where car tyres were a causal factor and 61% in all other vehicles.

Maintenance matters.

Checking your tyres regularly gives you the opportunity to identify problems and take action before you continue driving on tyres that may be poorly maintained or illegal.

Make Air pressure, Condition and Tread part of your regular vehicle checks.

Don’t wait until a tyre problem becomes something more serious.

Legal minimum and optimum performance aren’t the same thing.

As tread wears, a tyre’s ability to clear water from the road reduces, which matters even more as we head towards wetter autumn conditions.

That’s why knowing your tread depth before it reaches the legal limit is so important.

Great to see Kenway Tyres helping drivers think ahead rather than waiting until their tyres reach 1.6mm.

Rainy roads are part of driving in Scotland. Your tyres need to be ready for them.

Before the autumn weather settles in, check:

✔ Tyre pressure
✔ Tread depth
✔ Cuts or bulges
✔ Uneven wear

For cars, light vans and light trailers, the legal minimum is 1.6mm. TyreSafe® advises considering replacement below 3mm.

You learnt how to drive the car. But how well do you know the four tyres keeping you connected to the road?

Tyre checks should be at the heart of basic car maintenance. Get into the habit of checking the correct pressure, looking for damage or unusual wear and making sure you have sufficient tread.

Once you’ve checked your tyres, there are other essentials every new driver should get to know:
🛞 Check your engine oil
🛞 Top up essential fluids
🛞 Keep an eye on your battery
🛞 Replace worn wiper blades
🛞 Test your lights
🛞 Keep your windscreen clear
🛞 Clean the interior and exterior

And remember to stay on schedule with servicing and MOT checks.

Exposed cords are a clear sign that a tyre is dangerously compromised and should never be on the road.

What began as a stop for a seatbelt offence uncovered tyres in a condition that could put the driver, passengers and other road users at risk, alongside a further 12 defects identified during examination.

A powerful example of why tyre condition matters. Damage, cracking, bulges and exposed cords can all be warning signs that demand immediate attention.

Excellent work by NI Road Policing and Safety for spotting these dangerously defective tyres and preventing the vehicle from travelling any further.
