A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
For almost 18 years, Downside & Hatchford Sports & Family Day has been a huge part of my life, bringing together generations of families, friends and neighbours and creating countless special memories.
After 18 years as Chair, and following discussions with the committee, I have decided that the time has come for us to step aside and allow a new generation to take the reins. This is not because we love the event any less, but because we believe its future should now be led by the community it was created for. I am incredibly grateful to the amazing committee, volunteers, sponsors, local businesses and everyone who has supported the event over the years.
We are committed to organising one final Sports & Family Day in 2027, but our hope is that this will mark the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end. Throughout 2027, we want to work alongside a new committee, sharing our knowledge and helping them prepare to take over from 2028, with our continued support whenever needed.
However, if nobody comes forward 2027 will sadly be the final event.
This much loved tradition has been part of the community since 1910, and we are asking you to help ensure it continues for generations to come. You don't need experience or to do it alone - just the enthusiasm to step forward and keep something very special alive.
The future of Downside & Hatchford Sports & Family Day now rests with you.
