Last weekend at GYG 🏁

What a weekend! We headed across to Wales for a fantastic Club100 karting event at GYG, and the weather couldn’t have been better. ☀️

On the way, we collected a particularly rare Model One Defender 130 — and it didn’t take long to prove just how useful it could be. From carrying all the kit we needed for the weekend to giving us the perfect platform to stand and watch the racing, it certainly earned its place!

One of the things I love most about Land Rover is how the brand brings people together. During the weekend I got chatting with the owner of the circuit, who then showed me a fantastic photo from many years ago when they hosted a Land Rover Series 1 Club event. Seeing that connection between Land Rover and GYG stretching back so many years was a great reminder of the community and friendships that surround these vehicles.

And, of course, a huge congratulations to Jasper on his race win! 🏆 Some seriously impressive driving.

A great weekend, great weather, great racing and a very special Defender 130 — what more could you ask for?

And perhaps the best part… the Defender has already been reserved before it even made it onto the website! 👀

Not all Range Rovers have the same story…

This L322 5.0 V8 Autobiography wears a desirable VX-prefix registration – a registration series that is often associated by enthusiasts with Land Rover’s own fleet of factory vehicles, including development, engineering, management and press demonstrators. While a VX registration alone doesn’t confirm a vehicle’s history, it’s a detail that always sparks conversation among Land Rover enthusiasts. (⁠Reddit)

This 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 is the flagship Autobiography specification, this represents one of the last truly analogue luxury Range Rovers before the move towards downsized and hybrid powertrains.

The market has quietly started to recognise just how special these cars are. They are becoming increasingly sought after, with collectors appreciating their blend of timeless design, effortless V8 performance and modern usability.

Tomorrow’s classic? We’d say they’ve already arrived.

A bit of appreciation for this Discovery 4.

I bought it as a stop-gap car while we waited for our new car to arrive, fully expecting it to be a temporary solution. To be honest, I’ve been quite critical of Discovery 4s in the past, mainly because of their reputation for reliability issues and because I could never seem to get comfortable driving them.

Looking back, I think part of that was down to family life at the time. When the kids were in child seats, I always sat closer to the steering wheel to give them more room, and I never really found a driving position that suited me.

Fast forward to now, the kids are older, I’ve finally found a comfortable seating position, and I’ve discovered what so many owners have always loved about these cars. It’s comfortable, capable, practical, and genuinely enjoyable to drive.

What was supposed to be a temporary stop-gap has ended up proving me wrong. In fact, we’ve enjoyed it so much that we’ve decided to keep it for the time being. The biggest surprise? We actually find ourselves using it more than our new car.

Sometimes the cars you least expect end up being the ones you appreciate the most. 👌

One thing I never take for granted with my job is the opportunity to drive some incredible Defenders — I know how lucky I am to experience them daily.
But somehow, it’s always the older originals that get me excited the most.
The ones with a bit of rust, worn interiors, dents, noise and years of stories built into them. The patina, the character, the feeling that every mark has earned its place. They’re far from perfect, but that’s exactly why I love them.
Pure character every single mile. 🛻
There’s also something strangely therapeutic about an old petrol engine with a manual choke. No jumping in, pressing a button and rushing off. You actually have to slow down for a minute — pull the choke out, listen to the idle settle, let it warm through properly and feel the engine come to life. It’s all part of the experience.

Modern cars are better in almost every measurable way… but they’ll never replace the character and connection you get from an old Defender. Pure therapy on four wheels. 🚙.
