Last week I shared a series 2 lightweight Land Rover grille I’d just finished, and thanks to that post, another one was ordered! 👍

That means I’ve now got two lightweight grilles heading off for galvanising.

A little comparison for the Land Rover enthusiasts…

On the left is a Series 2A Lightweight grille, and on the right is a standard Series 2A grille.

The Lightweight grille is noticeably wider than the standard version and is becoming increasingly difficult to find. Original examples are now very rare, making them a real challenge for anyone restoring a Lightweight.

If you’re looking for a correct Lightweight grille for your restoration and can’t find one, I can make one to order. Feel free to get in touch to discuss your project.

A repair on this 1949 grille, plus I’ve modified it into a 1950/51 lights-through style.

At some point in its past life, someone had modified the grille by adding small light holes, cutting a couple of the wires, and butchering the mounting lugs. After a fair bit of work, it’s now back where it should be and ready to head off with the latest batch of grilles for galvanising.

New base welded in to a 1949 square sump.
The original had a couple of big holes and some pin holes.
Original base removed, new base fabricated and welded in, ready for a new lease of life fitted to my dad’s 1949 sideplate engine.
