More memories, it's not often you get asked to scarf on a new front end to severely damaged Lotus Esprit.
Luckily for me the new replacement section was a pukka moulding. The trick was where to cut and how to accurately position the new section once the old damaged part had been to cut away. There was an overlap between the two, so a couple of basic location jigs were made. After taking a brave pill outcame the slitting disc. The rest you can see.

Going back through my work log, I found another challenging modification. Turning a Sabre Royale in to a 2+2. The car was giving back to the owner, unpainted. The rear deck of the car had to be cut away, and the boot hinges modified, so when the boot lid was raised it didn't foul the new insert. I think I used Z3 hinges the have a sway-a-way motion

A couple of years ago I was ask to modify the headlights on a Quantum kit car to make them IVA compliant. It was a bit of a haul, but the end result was worth the effort, but don't ask ne to do it again!

Something a little different this week, a Heron. This sculpture normally resides by the water at The Watermill Theatre in Newbury. It's in need of a little TLC. The original finish has started to suffer from years of exposure to the elements. The paint, gelcoat and filler needs carefully taking back to bare fibreglass. After tidying up any damaged areas a coat of epoxy primer, should help prevent future problems with osmosis. Next will be a base coat of Teal blue and then a rolled mottled finish, ending up with a 2pk clear lacquer. That's the plan!

I spent a week repairing a camper van for someone I thought was an honest person. I felt sorry for him as I thought he might have needed his van for the Christmas period. It turns out his father Tommy and brother Tommy buy and sell damaged camper vans. The guy that asked me to carry out the work Patrick Miles spends a lot of time in Europe, something to do with catalytic converters!
Well I've been stitched up, the only time in my 12 years of trading, they came last Friday unannounced, made some phoney attempt at proving to pay by BACS, the money hasn't come through and now Tommy can't be contacted. So if anyone here in the UK gets asked to carry out repairs on a camper van be warned. The vehicle wasn't even taxed...

Over the years I've had some unusual repairs and modifications to carry out, a pig with broken leg, and cow with same malady and a Gorilla with a hole in its head. Last week I had to section a Dalek so it would fitted through a 29" gap, obviously it had to done without any visible scarring. Job done!!

During the past month I have been busy rebuilding the front end of Lotus Esprit, a new front section was supplied by the customer. The tricky bit was where and how to chop off the damaged section. I took some splash moulds from the front of the car before any cutting to ensure a near perfect match. The new panel and car are both double skinned around the front wheel arches. Looking back it's been a dusty sticky month, especially when grinding and bonding on the underside of the repair... but worth the effort
