Does a hybrid car need a different MOT? ⚡🚗

Not quite. Once your hybrid reaches three years old, it needs an annual MOT and must meet the same standards as a petrol or diesel car.

The test covers:

🔧 Brakes, tyres and suspension
💡 Lights and dashboard warnings
👀 Windscreen, wipers and visibility
🛞 Steering and vehicle safety
💨 Exhaust emissions from the petrol engine

The hybrid battery’s capacity isn’t tested during an MOT, but the high-voltage cables and components are visually checked for damage.

Common hybrid MOT issues include corroded brake discs, worn tyres and dashboard warning lights, so don’t leave these until test day.
