🔄 DRIVING PARADOX #3

Being confident at a roundabout doesn’t mean going first.

You’re approaching a busy roundabout in Cheltenham.

You see a gap.

You could probably go…

…but you’re not completely sure.

So you wait.

And another car goes.

Then another.

Then another.

😩 “I’m never going to get onto this roundabout!”

Here’s the paradox:

Sometimes the most confident decision is choosing NOT to take the gap.

Good driving isn’t about forcing your way into every opportunity.

It’s about being able to assess:

👀 What can I see?
🚗 What are the other vehicles doing?
⏱️ How much time do I actually have?
🧠 Can I make the decision confidently?

And when the right gap appears…

GO.

Confidence comes from making the right decision — not from making the fastest one.

💭 What’s your least favourite type of roundabout?

🚦 DRIVING PARADOX #2

🟢 A green light doesn’t always mean you should go.

You’re approaching traffic lights in Evesham.

They turn green.

Your brain says:

GO!

But then you notice the traffic ahead hasn’t moved.

If you enter the junction, you could end up stuck in the middle of it.

So what do you do?

👉 Wait.

Even though the light is green.

Because a green light tells you that you may proceed when it is safe and appropriate — it doesn’t mean you have to immediately drive forward.

This is one of the biggest differences between following instructions and actually reading the road.

👀 Good drivers don’t just look at the traffic light.

They look at what’s happening beyond it.

💭 Would you have waited?

🏎️ SUNDAY FUNDAY: What insurance would Lightning McQueen have? 🤔😂

Okay, serious question…

If Lightning McQueen suddenly came down with a nasty case of engine-itis… would he need health insurance or car insurance?! 🏥🏎️

And if he crashed into Mater… would that be a motor claim or just a very awkward friendship problem? 😂

We might not be able to answer Lightning’s insurance questions, BUT we can help with something much more important — your insurance once you pass your test! 🚗

💡 NEW DRIVER INSURANCE — THE BASICS:

🔹 You MUST be insured to drive — even if you’ve just passed your test. Your policy needs to allow you to drive without supervision. (GOV.UK)

🔹 Third-party insurance is the legal minimum. It covers damage or injury you cause to other people, vehicles or property — but not damage to your own car. (GOV.UK)

🔹 Third-party, fire & theft adds cover if your car is stolen or damaged by fire.

🔹 Fully comprehensive generally provides wider cover, including damage to your own vehicle, subject to the policy terms. (GOV.UK)

🔹 Don’t be tempted by a suspiciously cheap policy! Fake insurance scams, known as ghost broking, can leave you unknowingly uninsured. Always check you’re buying from a legitimate insurer or broker. (FCA)

🔹 And remember… passing your test doesn’t mean you’ve finished learning. Your first year is all about building experience and confidence safely. 🚦🧠

So, whether you’re a Lightning McQueen, a Mater, or firmly a Chick Hicks 😂…

Drive smart. Stay safe. And make sure you’re properly insured! 🚗💨

🚗💡 WEDNESDAY WISDOM!

One of the biggest things we teach our pupils is this:

You don’t get extra points for doing things quickly! 😉

When approaching a junction, roundabout or unfamiliar situation, take your time.

👀 Look — what’s happening around you?
🧠 Think — what could happen next?
🚗 Act — make your decision when it’s safe.

Good driving isn’t about being the fastest. It’s about being safe, observant and in control. 💚

If you’re learning to drive and sometimes feel like you need to rush your decisions, remember — it’s okay to take a moment.
