MOTORWAY LANES ARE NOT SOCIAL STATUS
Lane 3 is not superior.
Lane 1 is not slow.
Lane discipline is intelligence, not ego.
Some drivers treat lane choice like a promotion.
They move right and stay there as if they have levelled up.
They sit in the middle lane because it “feels safer.”
They avoid lane 1 because they associate it with HGVs or slower vehicles.
That is not strategy.
That is insecurity disguised as confidence.
Lane 1 is the default lane.
It is where you belong unless you are overtaking.
Lane 2 and 3 are working lanes.
You use them.
You complete the overtake.
You return.
Staying out unnecessarily creates rolling roadblocks, encourages undertaking, increases frustration and raises risk.
Motorway driving is not about positioning for pride.
It is about flow, awareness and efficiency.
The most skilled motorway drivers:
☑️ Move early
☑️ Overtake decisively
☑️ Return smoothly
☑️ Do not sit where they do not need to be
Driving well is quiet.
It does not need to dominate a lane to feel important.
Ego drives right.
Intelligence returns left.
