It’s important to know what car dashboard warning lights mean because you might be able to avoid a car breakdown or full-on failure.
So here's what the different yellow and red warning lights on your dashboard mean, why they come on, how urgent the problem is and what you should do when you see them.
The warning lights on your dashboard follow a traffic light colour system:
🟢Green: the system is working correctly or is currently in use
🟡Yellow: something is not working correctly - take extra care and check it out as soon as possible
🔴Red: there is a serious, and potentially dangerous problem - stop driving as soon as it is safe to do so

Weight is a major factor in how much petrol your car uses. The heavier the vehicle, the more fuel will be needed to keep it moving. This is especially true when driving in stop-start traffic, something that can be quite common when driving in busy city areas or on motorways.

It’s very easy to get into the habit of using your car as a storage space, with golf clubs or the pram sitting in the boot of your car. However, on average, an extra 50kg of weight in the car will increase fuel consumption by 1-2%. Therefore, it’s best to only carry the essential things you need.

Overloading and putting too much weight on your tyres will increase contact with the road, and can lead to the rubber experiencing more wear, especially if your tyres are not inflated to the correct pressure levels which could cause a blow out!

Is a service different to an MOT?
Yes - a service is different to your MOT. It’s common to have both at the same time and many garages offer a package for your service and MOT.

But they’re not the same thing:
MOT
🛞An MOT is an annual test to check your car’s safety and make sure it's roadworthy.
🛞It’s a legal requirement to get it done if your car’s over 3 years old.
🛞You can’t drive your car without a valid MOT.

Service
🔧A service isn’t a legal requirement.
🔧It looks at wear and tear on your car and is recommended to keep your car performing its best.
🔧The car manufacturer will detail which checks should be included in the service. All of our services are available.

We’ve all been there, Trying to buckle your seatbelt in the heat is a dangerous game. Any metal component of your car that has been exposed to sunlight and heat may irritate your hands, especially if you have children! But you can avoid this by fastening your seatbelt when you leave and leaving it buckled until the next time you enter.

If the sun can't reach it, it won't become hot enough to burn!

It is your legal requirement to have a valid MOT certificate for your vehicle.

With our easy to use online booking system, you can arrange your MOT test at a time to suit you, we will even send you an email/SMS reminder before your test is due.

Our current prices are £40.00 for Class IV or £50.00 for Class VII.

We can only accept Class 1/2/3 MOT tests by telephone so please call for availability.

1. When to get an MOT- The MOT test checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards. You must get an MOT for your vehicle by either: the third anniversary of its registration or the anniversary of its last MOT, if it’s over 3 years old.
‍
‍2. Earliest date you can get an MOT - An MOT lasts for a year. The date it runs out is printed on the last pass certificate. You can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date.
‍
‍3. If the MOT has expired - You can’t drive your vehicle on the road if the MOT has run out. You can be prosecuted if caught. The only exceptions are to drive it to, or from somewhere to be repaired, or to a pre-arranged MOT test.

Motorists without a valid MOT certificate for their vehicle can risk a fine of up to £1,000.
