Images like this can paint quite a picture.
Dumping plastic waste in other countries is something we do not stand for and last year 29% was exported to non- EU OECD countries.

🌏Better than previous years but still not enough is being done.

When it comes to recycling UK Gov has ambitious targets.
This includes:
👉 A “target” of eliminating avoidable plastic waste by end of 2042.
👉 Reforming the UK packaging producer responsibility system (UK-wide).
👉 Consistency in household and business recycling (England).

Government focus is crucial, and although there has been growth in UK plastics recycling capacity as a result of funding, this needs to be accelerated to continue to be able to handle large volumes and support keeping it in the UK.

Let’s talk paper straws. It is appreciated there are people who NEED to use straws by way of a necessity as they cannot drink without help.

👉So let's keep the debate to the introduction of paper straws by brands in a bid to try and be "more sustainable."
👉Paper straws require growing a tree, cutting it down, and pulping and pressing it and transporting it. Many are not recyclable or compostable.
👉We do not advocate plastic straws either.

Meet just a few of our own Recycling Heroes. Today is Global Recycling Day, so we are giving a big shout out to our behind the scenes team of technical superheroes, plastic protectors and Guardians of the Green.

It is our mission to ensure recycled plastic provides a quality, sustainable and CSR-friendly alternative to virgin plastic.

Great message from Buxton. We can safely say no "pour" decisions were made when it came to this bottle's labelling.

Spotted any good examples of bold and clear recycle messaging? We love to see your examples of "the good, the bad and the ugly" in packaging ♻️

Aside from the fact that all their packaging is fully recyclable (even the cap,) we love Buxton's commitment to sustainability, including the partnership with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust that aims to increase biodiversity, and that the factory is powered by renewable energy.

We doff our plastic cap to you people of Buxton Water !

So this is a biggie. Let's discuss packaging in the fast fashion industry.
🛍️ ♻️
The fashion industry are clearly making an effort to be more sustainable with their packaging, by using recycled paper. Except, paper bags require four times as much energy to manufacture as plastic bags.*

Then, there’s the individual polybags for each garment.

Polybags are not easily recyclable, and so may end up in landfill.

Apparently 72% of this type of packaging is thrown away. (Ellen MacArthur Foundation)

When it comes to supply chains, the challenges to be more sustainable are complex.

There is a need to protect the clothing in transit – clothes being ruined before being worn isn’t sustainable.

📣So what is the solution here?

📣Garment bags made from recycled plastic offers a viable option.

📣Reducing unnecessary plastic by putting clothing into fewer/ smaller bags offers another.

Discuss.
